Quick release steering boss

Recommended Posts

Hi there moderators. My thread has turned from a wanted to a fitting type thing so could it please be moved to general supra chat? If its not a massive pain in the anus? Maybe clear up the posts that relate to it being a wanted ad too?

Cheers

Thats exactly what I was going to do. Just wanted to help a fellow forum member out though :D

Got my short boss on the way from the States (1.5" as opposed to about 4") so I should be in a near stock position after I get the QR thing on.

Just as a matter of conversation, as Ive made my mind up, but which would you recommend? The ones with the weld on hex collar, or the ones that look like 2 ashtrays with the sliding collar? The latter is the type Ive decided on.

Obviously Id love a lifeline one or ideally the Signal Auto quick release boss but prices are prices and I dont have a lot of cash to throw around after this bloody heater matrix.

Yeah but the ones that are one piece are like over £200 and I think its a little much to pay for what is to me, simply a toy and a novelty. I understand they have a serious use but not for me.

They do make the steering wheel sit too close, thats why I bought a short boss from the states, its only 1.5" as opposed to the 4" standard ones. Should be pretty similar to stock. If not, theres a slimline snap off boss and Ill just make up a spacer if needs be. Its not cheap (getting bent over on postage and import costs) but its going to be 100% exactly how I want it, and thats what matters!!!

JamieP - Not overly sure on the fitments but theres the lifeline ones http://www.lifeline-fire.co.uk/quickrelease/steeringboss.asp

And the cheapy Ebay weld-on ones http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/QUICK-RELEASE-STEERING-HUB-BOSS-AUTOGRASS-STOCKCAR_W0QQitemZ160307817115QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item160307817115&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1301|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1318 and http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/QUICK-RELEASE-STEERING-BOSS-MOMO-OMP-RALLY-AUTOGRASS_W0QQitemZ160307813902QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item160307813902&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1301|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1318

But they would probably need an adaptor making up to pair up with the steering wheel (the 3 hole one almost definitely), but if you're handy that would take about a minute.

Im pretty sure insurance companies dont like these though... So dont be thinking itd give you money off.

PeteTT - http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120351834451&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWNX%3AIT&viewitem= Dunno if it'll fit yet though! Exciting or what!?

Got the quick release boss this weekend. Seems good quality and clunky and chunky. Also, its fucking good at trapping fingers hard! Wont be an issue when on the car as it was the way I was holding it. Unfortunately Im getting messed around with the steering wheel I bought off Ebay so wont be fitted for a while

Had a go at it tonight. Turned the QR base down so it had a step to locate it into the short hub (like a hubcentric wheel spacer). Then tried to fasten some bolts into the boss.

Holy bad quality workmanship batman!

The holes were tapped really badly. Have emailed the company to find out if they've used some weird moon measurement as opposed to the M5 I presumed it was. Most likely will need to drill them out and re-tap them.

Cheers bud, you live & learn I guess.

WRT the ones in the lifeline link, I phoned them up to see exactly what the fitment procedure was.

Basically the Touring Car fitment means you need to weld the fitment onto your steering column.

The Group N fitment requires a car specific boss, you attach that in the normal way the bolt the Group N fitment to that. That costs £161.20 plus the price of a Momo boss.
