AndrewOW
It charges all kinds of 'compatible' (hopefully backward compatible too) devices by placing them on the 'mat', saves on tangled wires and can even charge devices of different power usage. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/7819732.stm I like this new invention, a lot! Will be available from September 2009.
3LL
sounds expensive, but im sure it will be viable in five years to every day folk.
Carl_S
A vibrator, a beard trimmer, and a mobile phone all charging happily on one mat. Yes, that's a vision of the future that I would like to be part of. Yet, hygenically speaking and possibliy emotionally too, do we want such disparate items to be such close bedfellows? And in the hectic rush to get ready before work, could we pick up the wrong item by mistake? Imagine having taken your wife's vibrator to a meeting instead of your mobile? Or even worse, as the boss looks on, going to answer it when it vibrates.

Carl_S
My "spaceship" is parked a few roads away from my house and I'm sure is completely intact.
Angarak
Some electric tooth brushes already use that (or similar technology) to charge the batteries.
