Sharpie
My wife's PC is blue screening during the boot up process so, I pulled out the O/S cd and tried to boot from that but, when I get to this point (see below) the USB keyboard does not work. (It will work at any point up until this screen). No PS/2 on this PC. Any advice ?
JustGav
Check in the BIOS and you should have a USB keyboard emulation option.

Sharpie
Hi, sorry it's been a while. I have taken a couple of screen shots and found when the recovery cd is running, it's installing USB Keyboard files but, as soon as I get to the screen in post #1 they keyboard is frozen, lights are on but, nothing happens. The Keyboard and mouse combo is a Logitech Cordless Dekstop LX 700 and during any other part of the navigation around the screen, on the pages/screens before this WinXP Pro setup page, it's just fine. Only when I want to press ENTER=Continue or R=Repair or F3=Quit it does not work. Do the screen shots help ? (screen shots via camera)
ClaireRZ-S
Do you know what service pack is on the computer? What model is your computer? Have you upgraded the bios and usb drivers? To make sure that its not a compatibiliy issue test the keyboard on another computer to see if it works.

ClaireRZ-S
I think theres a Bios Update on Dell's support page - Check that out first. Is the green led glowing on the keyboard when plugged in?
Sharpie
Yeah, all LED's are showing what I would expect. The keyboard works during the installation of files from the CD but, when the process changes to starting Windows and I get the screen shot in post #1, it's at this point it does not work. Looking on Dell's website, there is an optional update A07 over A02 that I have but, since i can't get to a command prompt or for Windows XP to fire up, I can't updated it. ClaireRZ-S
Are you willing to try a recovery on this computer if you have tried the recovery cd, if so you could change the boot option in the bios to boot on the cd first , i honestly dont know why that is happening if it was ok beforel. Thorin
Just read on Dell's website my warranty ran out 03-Jan-09 Doh! You could try ringing them anyway, I have heard of them fixing machines as a gesture of goodwill if they're only just out of warranty.
Sharpie
What an arse, I am! Recovery CD was for a HP notebook....not my Dell Desktop Anyway, I called Dell and for £24:15 they would give me support there and then, no disc needed as they told me to press Ctrl F11 during the boot up process and took me to the Dell Recovery tool. 30mins later - Job Done! They are sending me a copy of the OS out to me too, FOC. I'm glad I did not take it to PC World where their charges start at £69 + parts. Thanks again for your help :-)
