hi everyone,

need some advice on some decent hotels to stay in, in Hong Kong. i will be going their in 3 weeks for about 5 weeks (including some time in southern China) and would be helpful to know anyone's choices, views, or knowledge, or personal experiences.

I don't mind where the hotel is situated, whether it is HK Island or Kowloon, but i would prefer something, in the moderate to expensive range, maybe the luxury end of the market as i know you can get savings of 30 - 50%.

Thanks in Advance,

cheers,

Ian

Try the Harbour plaza, North Point. Got upgraded to the Penthouse and it was £77 a night.... can't really say no to that.

Even for an executive suite it's £105/night standard price. It's 15 mins walk from the main shopping centre or about 2 mins from the MTR

The hotels that Nic has mentioned are generally the best but they will not come cheap. 5 weeks of not cheap will be a lot of money, I hope this is a business trip and you can claim the cost back

As for Southern China, I only really know the Shenzhen/Guangzhou/Zhuhai areas. Here are some recommendations for you:

Shenzhen:

In town: Shangri-la, Crowne Plaza, Four Points Sheraton

Out of Town: Mission Hills Golf Resort Hotel (12 golf courses = 216 holes!), Parkview (Chang-An, Dongguan), Grand Noble (Humen, Dongguan)

Guangzhou:

Garden Hotel, Guangzhou Oriental Resort, Chimelong Hotel

Zhuhai:

Venetian, Wynns, Westin Resort

Mind you if you are on a short trip to HK and looking for some mickey mouse place to stay near the airport you could always try this place ;)

Hope you find what you want and if you need any more advise on any other things in HK, just let myself or Nic know.

Nic might be able to help you out on this, maybe give him a PM.

cheers, had thought of that but beaten to it, lol :)

When looking for somewhere fancy, I normally try Mr & Mrs Smith:

thanks Gaz, rather nice selection of hotels there, will have a look in more detail later on.

i may have to sign in as 'mrs and mrs smith', just in case the fiance's family decide to pay us a visit while we are in HK on vacation, lol

Yeah but to you a Travelodge is fancy :D As above i'd give Nic a PM for some local recommendations too :)

cheers mate, at least it beats the YMCA i thought i may have to use, if it was expensive :)

These are some of the five star hotels I'd consider.

HK Island

Grand Hyatt

Conrad International

Marriott

Mandarin Oriental

Four Seasons

Kowloon

Peninsula Hotel

Some good reference here http://www.hk-hotel.com/

Thanks Nic for the list, helpful as i won't just stay in one place, be nice to move around as well, and stay in another hotel, in different area, i kinda fancy staying in Kowloon, as well as HK Island.

appreciate the weblink too :)

maybe get a chance to say hi, when i am there. plans in the pipeline to move to HK in next year or two.

thanks for the help,

Ian

great breakdown of Hotels, cheers for that, mate :)

i plan to be there for 5 weeks, first week in HK, then going to Beihai, Hainan Island, and Nanning. then for final week back to HK again, maybe a couple of days in Macau.

no such luck as claiming it back. purely a vacation with the future wife in HK, finally hitting Nanning for us both to visit her family :)

loks, thanks for all the advice :) , and appreciate helping if i have anymore questions. Depending on how things go, would like to be living in HK, maybe next year, or year after, definitely will have a place in Nanning.

i may stop over in Shenzhen for one night too. not sure though.

cheers once again,

Ian
