Mike
Are you taking the pi$$ or is that the actual answer? um? I can't believe you need to know this? if the respray is not 'thick enough' are you going to go back to the sprayer and insist on a few more coats? Bobbeh
um = *something* microns? I dunno how many coats from factory they put on, I would guess 3-5?

That is exactly what I will do yes! Or actually I will check it on the spot and if it's not what I expect it do be, he wont get a dime. I want to make sure he did as many layers as agreed upon. Guest KDW
A mirror-like, showcar finish is what I'm after.. Otherwise I wont pay him. I think it's all good though, he seems to be a good chap. (but just in case..)
SUPRALOOPY
If you don't pay him you DON'T get your car back!!!
baldy
so have you gone over the whole car taking readings of the paint depth? unless you have or unless they take the whole car back to bare metal you wont be able the tell how much paint has been applied, also any areas that have filler in will go off scale on the micron gauge a mirror like finish is not about how much paint is applied but,how well its applied and then how well itsflat n polished.the more paint on there the deeper the chips will be when a stone hits it
Guest KDW
you are missing the point. it's not a matter of wanting as much paint (or actually clear coat) as possible, but whether or not he did in fact give it the extra clear coat layer or not. I have several points on the car where I know for a fact it only has the stock paint and that it will not have extra filler etc. This thread was not to start a debate on paint job strategy, all I wanted to know was the stock paint thickness. thanks for the inputs. Jay_vr6
the stock paint won't be the same thickness all over the car anyway, hence why you get a paint depth gauge and check all the panels before detailing, if you haven't done that then you may have a tricky time, but Michael is pretty much on the money 130>150um
