carbon weave

Recommended Posts

Continuous thin carbon fibers are collected to bundles with 500 or more (up to 48000) single fibers. Using “k” as the abbreviation for “thousand”, they are defined as 0.5k up to 48k. Typical numbers are 0.5k, 1k, 3k, 6k, 12k, 18k, 24k, 48k.

Found this, so not sure how it works... For example if the use is a carbon fibre bonnet, I have no idea what sort of weave would be used VS a carbon fibre arrow VS a carbon fibre road bike frame.

IMO its not suitable for a bonnet. With its high weight and thicker strands, it will be more difficult to lay up than a lighter weight CF weave.

If you have a local supplier you're best nipping in to have a look at their stock and have a chat with them so you can determine what effect your after weave-wise.

Personally I'd be looking @ 3k, the type of twill is down to personal preference.

Thanks for the comments, its not for a bonnet, its for a carbon frame on a road bike.

Not sure I have a local manufacturer...
