jevansio
I thought I'd post this here incase any of you guys were feeling generous (esp the North East lot ) I've signed up into jumping off the Transporter Bridge with a Zip Wire for charity. The charity is Daisy Chain, a Cleveland based scheme to give children with special needs & learning difficulties a better quality of life. Daisy Chain Project Teesside Daisy Chain supports and helps families/carers who are affected by autism. Daisy Chain is raising funds to build a respite centre for children with autism. It is based on a 5.5-acre farm in the North East and has already developed an animal petting farm, sensory gardens, play area, horticultural area and wetland area. I do this on the morning of the 27th September so if any of the North East lads fancy a laugh then you're welcome to it at my expense, I will be doing mine around 10am (at the Transporter Bridge obviously ) The company I work for (Serco) have said they will double anything I raise upto £250. Already Hiten & Mark have kindly offered to make a donation with the money from the front rad cover mix up (thanks guys). The website that has been setup for me by Daisy Chain to accept donations is: http://www.justgiving.com/jayevans Many thanks guys & gals , if you have any questions please feel free to ask, & I greatly appreciate any donations Jay

Chris-B
How’s it going Jay? Had much interest in your car, in terms of selling it? Somehow managed to get talked into taking part in this event at work today, me and a lass I work with are doing it together, actually quite looking forward to it first time I have done anything of this sort. You got an exact time you’re jumping yet? Might see you there!

AndyT
Bumping Jays charity thread as the event is fast approaching. Thought I'd bump it with a newsletter from another charity that I've also sponsored through members of this club. Just shows, every little helps. Nearly One Year On With less that a month to go before our first anniversary on 1st October, I thought you might like an update. Help for Heroes was launched as an appeal last year at a time when support for the Armed Forces seemed to be at an all time low. Regiments were coming home from unpopular wars to empty streets and residents of leafy suburbs were aghast at the prospect of a house for relatives of the wounded being established in their back yard. Servicemen were advised not to wear their uniforms lest they cause offense and wounded swimmers were shouted at in a public swimming pool. We were not happy, we wanted to help, we went to General Sir Richard Dannatt and we were told that the tri service rehabilitation centre at Headley Court lacked a swimming pool and if we could raise money for one, it would be appreciated. With your help and the support of Celebrities, the Media, Royalty, The Armed Forces and thousands of ordinary people who have been prepared to get involved, we have done our bit and raised £9 million so far. There has been a wonderful change, people are turning out to cheer the servicemen and women as they march through their hometowns; people understand that, whatever one feels about war, those who fight on our behalf deserve, and must get, our support. If they are wounded while serving our country they must get the very best treatment and when they come home, they deserve our respect. Help for Heroes has grown way beyond an appeal to raise money for the pool, we achieved that by 1st June and the preparatory work has begun on a complex that includes the pool, gym and treatment rooms. The Government has added a further £24 million to the funds needed by Headley Court and that will provide new accommodation, prosthetic workshops and a minor brain trauma unit. We have given £500,000 to SSAFA to help provide a Relative’s House near Selly Oak and we are involved in several projects to help the wounded rehabilitate through sport, competition and challenges like our bike ride that raised £1.4 million. We are now awaiting the results of two studies into how we may best support the wounded as they transit into the rest of their lives. Frankly, Help for Heroes is needed and it is making a difference. I know that not just from reading the letters of support but also from talking to soldiers in Headley Court and in Basra; they know that people are thinking about them and doing their bit to support them, and it makes them feel good. So, we are not fading away, that would be to let too many people down, but equally we will not outstay our welcome if we are not needed. We want to do something really good to help our men and women and we have plans to do just that. By mid October we will be able to announce our next phase and that is when we will need to call on you as we hit the accelerator. We will need millions to put in place a new and visionary system that, working with the MOD and the other service charities, really will make a great difference to the future of the wounded. I hope you will be part of that. Thank you for everything you have done so far; Please keep going! Bryn and Emma Cheers Andy

jevansio
Hey Andy, top & bottom is I never did it, I dunno if you noticed but I had the charity return all the money. It was the biggest f**k up ever, I turned up & the thing was delayed due to an unforseen ship going up the river. They told me to hang around for 3 hours (or go home & come back). I nearly got into a fight in the car park with this old dick who couldn't park for toffe (smashed his wing mirror off another car whilst parking) then decided to pull next to me (I was in the Porsche), had a big argument with him & his family (feckin smoggy scumbags). So on my way home they phoned me again and said there had been another delay, so I basically told them I wasn't losing another of my Saturdays for their incompetence and called the thing off. You should have received your donation back into which ever account you used on their website. Soryy I didn't let you know but I was fuming about the whole thing for ages afterwards, & it took me ages to organise them to return the money.... and deep breath out
