I have mapped most my own cars and a few mates cars mainly using piggybank ecu's.

Tbh u need some background expierence and understand the effects of changing timing/fuelling.

Do a search on efi universty who have info and they also run courses etc but are in the states

Must be another one of those trades that you are gifted with & all top secret :p

Nope not at all, took me 18months or so but I'm mapping and have happy customers ;) Still lots to learn but I accept it's a continual process.

Start off by reading http://www.amazon.co.uk/Forced-Induction-Performance-Tuning-H691/dp/1859606911/ref=cm_lmf_tit_6_rsrsrs0, http://www.amazon.co.uk/Four-stroke-Performance-Tuning-Practical-Guide/dp/1844253147/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1209058738&sr=1-2 - no point mapping unless you understand the implications of what you're doing etc.

There was a couple of engine management books I read too that were quite good, I'll dig the details out.

But it also helps if you know someone in the industry, I do and they taught me the practical side.

I used one of my own cars to practice on too, my poor little MR2 turbo has run a dastek piggyback, EMU and now an AEM :D

That should get you going :)
