Car Back On road BUT...!

Recommended Posts

My car is now fixed and back on the road!!! :D :eyebrows: (thanks for the parts Jezz :))

....However the "door open light" is now on permanantly, to give a bit more info the car has been sat for 6 weeks dead battery which I disconnected in the end..!

Once my brakes were fixed re-connected the battery jump started it indicators didn't work (forgot to plug harzard light connector back in on dash panel ) though right everything sorted. But the "door open light" stays on even with the key out of the ignition and the doors locked??? :Pling:

I'm thinking the alarm maybe the issue i've got a META M999T any ideas?

I would've thought that the door open light would be controlled by a pressure switch like most cars somewhere near the hinge?

Try pushing them in and out a few times - otherwise it's a possible switch fault or wiring on the alarm as you suggest. It'll use those switches as sensor inputs, maybe they're on some kind of latch or relay for the alarm trigger.

That was my first thought the switches aren't on the doors they are on the end of the latch on the bodywork pushed them in both sides and light still stays on  (at least I can drive the car now though :))

Any thoughts or owners of Meta Systems alarms?

A fault in the alarm wouldn't cause the door open light. Its more likely to be a fault with one of the door switches. Try pulling the plug off the switch and bridging the connections with a bit of wire to see if the dash light goes off.

edit - actually that doesn't make sense lol. Just pulling the plug off would turn off the light because the connection would be broken. Activating the door switch should break the connection normally. Unless somebody knows different that is :)

The wiring for the alarm would be tapped into the interior light circuit but doesn't break the connection so that if any door is opened it gets the signal but it only receives the signal, it doesn't give one back. The only connections broken and controlled by the alarm are ones to immobilise the car.

okay so probably the door switch circuit is permanantly connected somewhere.... (Think I might give the car to an auto electrician :D, easier:innocent:)

It can only be a faulty door switch. If there was a broken wire it wouldn't light at all. But you are right, it would be easier to just get an autospark to sort it for you :D I tend to try and sort things myself as my car is my only transport and its a pain in the ass to have to leave it somewhere to get work done

Mine is my only driver too but i've got 12 days off coming up :D Although if it has to be a faulty switch I may have a look, is it just the two door switches or are there any more?

I wasn't sure about the bootlid so I went and looked :D

There's just the 2 door switches. The bootlid and bonnet don't have a switch which connects to the dash light though they might have one which connects to the alarm (which wouldn't cause the dash light to come on).

Cool i'll have a look when i'm off work, I presume the door latches come off quite easily :) thanks for the info bud ;)

Is it just the dash light or the internal cabin light?

Does the alarm provide the facility to have a light that comes on for a few seconds before and after the alarm is enabled? You know how some cars do so in the dark you can see what your doing even though the car is off?

Maybe that bit needs reprogramming or disabling.

the alarm isnt tapped into the interior light, its tapped into the sensors so the alarm will go off if the doors, boot and the bonnet

And those sensors in the doors are working as the interior light goes on and off when opening and closing both doors!

The $1million question now is the alarm also wired up to the "door open circuit" making it think the doors are always open and does that also go to aditional switches under bonnet and boot? Think this may go over and above my abilities :(

I didn't say it was tapped into the light. I said the light circuit which is the same circuit that the door switches go to. There is 1 positive and 1 negative wire which each go to the door circuit so if any door is opened it triggers the light and also triggers the alarm. It doesn't matter if the light is switched off, the alarm will still trigger. Since the boot and bonnet don't have a switch there is a seperate wire which goes to a switch supplied with the alarm which you have to install for the bonnet. As for the bootlid, it will be covered by the ultrasonic sensors. If someone manages to open the boot the alarm would go off anyway.

Having said that if its a different alarm then it could have wiring going to each door switch :D

Yep if the door switch is faulty then the alarm will think that a door is still open and probably won't set or will set but beep to warn you that a door is open.

Just don't panic lol. Check the door switches and if its not that then leave it to an autospark. If it is a door switch then you will have saved yourself a bundle of cash and hassle by fixing it yourself

The switches seem to be working fine as the interior light is working properly might still have a look at them then if they're fine definately getting an autospark to fix it ;)

the boot and bonnet do have a switch

Okay bonnet is easy it's near the air filter attached with one screw (will check to see if it turns light on and off) but i'll be damned if I can see one on the boot.... Any ideas?

Also wouldn't my interior light be on all the time as well as the "door open light" if the fault was with one of the switches? :badidea:
