Asking whether or not I took 400 aussie dollars out in cash in Melbourne on my debit card last friday night!!!! WTF!!!!!

I politely informed her that I was about as far as I could possibly could have been from the land of large bouncing rats, and kangaroos:d, at that point in time as I was on Anglesey in North Wales!

It appears that my card has been cloned by some scumbags and they even had my pin!! Chip and pin, 'totally safe' eh!! B******s!I NEVER use my debit card on-line but it is the card I use for all my day to day card transactions so someone must have copied my information somehow and sold it on or summat!

Got to wait a few days before being able to attempt to get my £190 back! All credit to HSBC fraud team though, firstly for picking it up so soon and secondly that since the first phonecall they've contacted me again to reassure me that everything will be alright!

Always something you hear happening to other people and you say to yourself 'they must be dead stupid with their information, I'd never allow that to happen to me!!!!' Hmmmmm:confused:

Oh good luck...I've dealt with the HSBC on this before.

You will get a form that pretty much will blame you and ask questions accordingly. Took mine around 3 weeks (which sucks when it is your main account). I filled the form in with a bit a tone in my wording because I was annoyed. Went into the bank and they knew all about it, apparently 400 cards had been cloned that weekend, so after admitting they knew about it, they continued to treat it as though I had handed over my card and code.

I would imagine you have either been done by one of those camera things that thieves put on cash machines or cctv at a petrol station, they have done well to get all of your details though.

Either that or it's an inside job at HSBC?

Getting someones pin isn't easy unless you are stupid enough to make a note of it. I have 4 cards and they all have different pins.....;)

Oh, top.

I'm currently fighting claims with my Local Authority AND Virgin Rail at the mo, so just another one to add to the letter list!

Makes you yearn for cash again doesn't it! I'll be much more careful where I use my card in future, I doubt whether it was at a cash machine. I'm very switched on when I'm taking cash out and generally wear a face like thunder and look at people with a 'come within 5 feet and I will punch you in the throat in a nice way!' kinda look.

Sometimes the crooks fit an oblong camera to the machine so it actually looks like part of roof/ceiling of the hole in the wall. I always cover my number with either my hand or my wallet!

I also always try to use the same petrol station if possible!

In reality it is almost impossible to protect your card. At one of my previous companies, we caught a member of staff selling details of peoples cards. He unluckily copied details from a vicar who'd only used his credit card once in 3 years!!:D

I wish HSBC were that diligent for me :(

I bought a new computer at the end of January, and it was charged to my card 7 times within 24 hours, putting me way over any credit/overdraft limits I have on that account! I only found out when my card was rejected when trying to put a mere £30 on it a couple of days later! People at the local branch were helpful enough, but their "international" call centre were about as useful as a chocolate fire guard.
