DamanC
I would just like to hear peoples opinions on the two with regards to setting up an Ecommerce solution?
SMiFFAD
Ill watch this with interest. Ive done a few OScommerce installs, never touched Joomla, infact i only heard of its existance last week As far as OSC is concerned its nice and easy to use - im still a relative beginner with E-commerce but you can taylor it quite well with the wealth of mods available. Pete
Joomla is a CMS and not a specific ecommerce engine when I last looked? I quite like this one - http://www.zen-cart.com/ based on OSCommerce
DamanC
Just the man I was hoping would answer. Joomla is primarilly a CMS but has many plugins allowing it to funtion as an EC Solution. I hear good things about zen cart, I must admit I have dismissed it in favour of OSC in the past, will check it out. Cheers
Thorin
Joomla is a CMS and not a specific ecommerce engine when I last looked? I quite like this one - http://www.zen-cart.com/ based on OSCommerce zen cart would be what I'd use too.
fri3ndly
Joomla is absolute rubbish. Dont touch it with a barge pole for any jobs. E-commerce use zen-cart, and for cms make a custom system.
Shovels
For a small start-up business OSCommerce is a good start, except that the code is fairly dated. They're supposed to be working on V2, which will be interesting. There are some major drawbacks with regards to search engine optimisation, image manipulation. People have written add-ons to rectify, but it's not an ideal solution. For anything really serious you would want to ideally go down the cutom system route - this way you can mold the site around the business, not try and mold the business around the site. Gord R
I played around with OS Commerce and wasnt a huge fan. I used CS Cart and was impressed.http://www.cs-cart.com/
