Scoboblio
Hi people..... When I get up to about 120mph+ I get quite a severe vibration through the wheel / dash etc. I've been informed by a tyre place that it wouldn't be the wheel balancing, so in your opinion am I looking at a warped / damaged wheel? The car had brand-new alloys + tyres on it when I bought it but because of the limiter I couldn't take it above 112mph until recently so didn't notice. If it is a damaged wheel is it something I can easily test for?
tbourner
Mine does that too, at exactly 120 almost, I am also feeling a wobble at 30 and 70 as well. I've had a few people tell me that my rear wheel is buckled/wobbling, and now that rear shock is on it's way out. So it could be the same thing. I'm now looking for cheap alloys and cheap shocks. Nic
Could be a number of things, wheel balance, wheel bearings, worn bushes, shocks, tracking etc. Best to get it on a ramp and get some one to give a good going over. See my thread in the tech section, number of things found on minetoday to sort out.
Scoboblio
Thanks, got some time off work coming up so I think I'll take it in for a good going over
Steve W2
Your new tyres and alloys, are they different size to what was previously fitted? Do you have uprated suspension as well? If so you may also need to have the camber adjsuted. I wouldn't rule out tracking/balancing either just because one mechanic said so.
gav
I had similar problem (vibration at about 90MPH). Got new Good Year Eagle F1 Tyres fitted and was told by the monkeys at Tyre Spot I needed spiggott rings fitted behind my front volkracing alloys to correct the vibration. Since fitting these £5 each, there has been no vibration at all.
_Rob_
Did you ever find out what this was Scobolio? More or less 120 dead and upwards..
jazz1
how do you know the wheel bearings are gone?
Ulrik
Best and cheapest way is borrow some wheels/tires from a friend, and run the car again, and check for vibration... So you dont buy stuff when u dont need them... Try the cheapest / easyest things first
Nic
how do you know the wheel bearings are gone? Jack the car up and check for any side to side play of the wheel. If there is any movement of the wheel, the bearing needs replacing.
