used jap spec TT engine

i recently bought a jap TT engine from malaysia, still havent done the swap but just before that i wanted to know what parts i may need to replace or i could be expecting to replace. (have no clue how much mileage the engine has although i have a feeling it is from an accident car)

Have you already got a TT, or are you trying to put it in an N/A?

If you're doing an N/A to TT swap, you're going to need the ECU and wiring loom as an absolute minimum.

 

Do you know if it actually runs?

 

As for what other parts you're going to need to replace on an engine of unknown history, I'm afraid your guess is as good as mine :(

 

I suppose the timing belt is an obvious place to start, its easier to do when the engine is out of the car.

Where to stop is another question, I'd be tempted to have the sump off and look at the bottom end, although I'm not sure whether that would then involve buying new bolts for main and big end caps. Certainly you'd be looking at a gasket set, and even they aren't cheap these days :(

Seriously mate thats like asking how many miles a taxi will do in ten years its near impossible to answer..........

 

If the car was in an accident, some of the engine may be physically damaged......so you would need to sort that, if its high miles you may need to strip it and have it rebuilt, if its low mileage you may not need to do anything at all, although i would still have it stripped and inspected for peace of mind.

alright so say i strip it, what parts would i need to replace to assemble it back again? i know i would need new gaskets, (i think one has to change the valve stem seals if the engine is opened right) any other parts like . i was initially goin to go is set it all up then, check compression, oil pressure etc and then try starting it up and check how much boost its producing. anyways sorry to sound silly

Don't take this the wrong way, but if you honestly believe that, and it's the limit of your understanding, for God's sake get someone who knows what they are doing to do the work for you.

 

Honestly not trying to be rude, just trying to save you heartache along the way.

I'd say strip it, check the pistonsa nd bores, fit new rings, check crank, fit all new crank bearings, new oil and water pumps, all new seals, and a steel head gasket. Lap all valves and fit all new valve stem seals. It's much better to do all this with engine out and on its stand than risk fitting it and having to remove the whole lot again...

Its only a days work to drop it in and fire it up , a complete build is big $$$$$ so id see how she runs , all the bottom ends ive stripped have been like new , if you can do all the work yourself then open her up and have a look but if it aint broke dont fix it !!!! id change the rod bolts and head studs at a minimum and the stock gasket is steel and multilayer !!!

There is a problem with running the engine when he gets it. If there is something wrong with it, when you start it up it may end up causing alot more damage than already exists. But either way you have to try find out more information on the engine, milage would have been the best start. Whoever you have do the work to the engine, you should find out if you can watch or help out or something to see if you can pick up what its all about.
