V160 lubrication what do you use?

Having read virtually every thread on the V160 and oil, I am still confused. A few years ago Chris Wilson posted about oils used in other Getrag boxes. His post made perfect sense, why would Getrage make seals out of different compounds for their boxes used in a range of different manufacturers cars.

With Toyota ending their supply of V160 oil a few years ago, what are the long term solutions? I know Simon( Oilman) offered to carry out analysis of the oil for us. Did anyone take him up on the offer?

I know there are stocks of V160 around, but what are 6 speed owners using in the long term.

If you have a 6 speed, what gear box oil do you use?

I can still buy the V160, its still being made and supplied, just not in the UK, got loads in stock and more coming in all the time so no need to worry for awhile yet.

Thats good to hear as Im going to be looking for a V160 for my mk3 conversion in the near future.

Chris had recommended the MTF-LT-1 from BMW, but it has been Superceded with LT-2. The problem with DEXII ATF's is that no 2 from different manufactures are the 'exact' same, they just have to meet a specification, and most of the Original ones are superceded. The only problem with the V160 box and certain ATF's is if they contain to high of a concentrate additives (cant remember which one) they can cause seal swells.

Think the reasoning behind the ATF use in Getrag boxes was to reduce drivetrain losses as ATF is thinner but dosnt offer the protection that oils such as GL-4/5 offer - but the box maybe designed that it dosnt need the enhanced protection, Or, toyota actually added an additive to DexII.

I remember this was a hot topic years ago with the gt4 crowd involving mixing ATF to gear oil

We cant get it here for love nor money, and have decided to supply Royal Purple Synchromax. The main reason was people have been running it from 2003/4 with no reported problems, infact, they report the box shifts better - probably due to the additives to help syncro's - not found in ATF's. Royal Purple also designed it Specifically for Manual boxes requiring ATF's. I guess its a bit of a bite the Bullet, but i have never came across any negative feedback about the RP

Maybe worth running a sort of poll, i.e. what do you use, and any non problems?
