  1. Quick replies! Thanks for that! Width isn't a problem as it's a double garage with the partition wall cut out (so even a chubby boy like me can get in and out of cars lol). I'd best get my measuring tape out! Cheers, Mark
  2. Hi, I've been a lurker on here since 2003 and I've finally made up my mind to get a Supra. At the moment I have Ford Focus RS but as good as it is, it's time to go for something with a bit more poke. The question I've got is, does anyone know the EXACT length of a STANDARD (i.e. non-kitted) J-Spec TT. The reason I ask is that the garage where I will be keeping my supe is a bit smaller than most as it is attached to my house and a downstairs room cuts into part of it meaning that space might be an issue. I need as accurate a measurement (literally down the nearest centimetre) as possible please guys! Thanks, Mark
  3. I remember reading an article ages ago in a Ford tuning magazine about an alternative to a turbo timer. If I remember correctly, it was essentially a small bottle, some tubing and a couple of valves. The idea behind it was that as the engine was running, the valves (attatched to an oil feed somewhere) would slowly syphon off a small amount of oil and store it in the bottle. When the engine was turned off, the oil stored in the bottle drained back through the turbos cooling ducts and achieved the same effect as a turbo timer. But this was a good few years ago and if I remember correctly, it was just a prototype modification on an escort cossie being tested by a tuning firm. Maybe someone like Graham Goode Racing would have an idea? As this has no electrical connections and is essentially a stand alone system it would be ideal as an alternative to a turbo timer. Cheers, Mark
  4. Thanks for the replies guys! Aerotop Dave: Even though I don't own a Supra at the moment, I too occasionally get a bit bored with lots of people asking how much Supras are worth (hence why I did'nt ask that question.....). I was actually wondering how the lack of supply from Japan and specialist / enthusiast market demands will affect the future of the car! Sorry if this wasn't clear! Tim Wildman: If you bought your car just for enjoyment than fair enough, thanks for your comment! However, as this will be the biggest single purchase I have ever made in my life (and will probably be for a long time until me and the misses can afford to get a house together), I was just curious as to whether or not it was a good idea or not to invest my savings into a car that in a few years time could potentially be massively expensive to keep on the road and could only be properly worked on by a few people. If you as owners think this may be the case then perhaps I should look elsewhere for my dream car. Thanks again for your comments guys! Mark P.S. I only asked these questions because the search engine on here and on supraforums did'nt really contain the sort of information I was after, sorry if this upset anyone!
  5. Hello everyone! Just pondering the future of the Mkiv Supra over the coming years. How many of you do you think will still own your supra in five or so years time? What do you think will happen to the value of them? Will it continue to slowly drop, will prices level out or will they achieve "cult" or classic status and therefore maybe even increase in value? Or will they go the same way as the Mkiii and just fade away? Do you think there will still be parts available for them in five years time? I know that Supras have been well used in the aftermarket world and lots of components such as body panels, brake and suspension components can be upgraded instead of sourcing original Toyota parts. But what about things like glass panels such as windows and windscreens? Is there a big store of these that will eventually run out or can they be made on demand? What about people who repair and work on these cars? Will there still be people who are well familiar with the working of the Supra in five years time or will we all be going to one or two specialists for all our work? Ultimately, I'm just wondering if you guys think that buying a Supra to keep for five - eight years is a worthwhile investment or will they become to expensive to maintain as parts supplies start to dry up? Sorry for all the questions! Opinions / comments wanted! Cheers, Lambo
  6. I've liked mkiv supras for ages. My dad bought me a car magazine once when I was a lot younger to keep me quiet on a road trip to Southend to see the relatives and it had the road test of the soop in it (think i was Autocar? bout 1993). I've liked them ever since but I havent really seen / heard much about them till I saw Fast and the Furious (holds head in shame) and since then I've been trying to work out if / how I could afford one. I love them because they look superb and to get similar, reliable performance you would have to look to some much more exotic machinery. Despite liking them for so long I've actually never sat in one. There is a red J-spec that parks near my uni and I'm normally late for lectures because I've been squinting through it's window for ages! But the need is getting too great now and for the last six-eight months I've trying to convince myself that I can go without drinking or takeaways or anything else that comes with being a student. I think I'll save as much as I can and try to get a test drive or even a test ride in as many different types as possible over the next few months and then take the plunge. After all, you can sleep in your car, but you can't race your house.......
  7. Thanks for the quick replies guys! I thought this would be the response and I'm glad you've all been honest about it. I earn about £130 a week part time and I knew deep down I wouldn't be able to fund it till next year (just needed a slap to wake myself up ). Never thought about trying the different models long before I bought one though...... I just assumed I'd go for the UK TT. Soooo..... it looks like a year of research / planning / saving is in order! Anyone know of any friendly dealers / importers who let you test drive (or even test sit in!) the different types of Supras? Prefferably in the East Mids? Thanks for the wake up call! Mark P.S. This is the best owners forum I have ever visited! of any type of car!
  8. Hello everyone! I've been a lurker on this site for about eight months now, just toying with the idea of getting a supra as my next car. I've read just about every post that the search engine throws up when asked about "reliability" "buying advice" "running costs" etc. The question I would like an honest answer too is: Would you buy a supra in my situation? I'm 21 and will be starting my final year of uni in September. By September I should hopefully have in the region of £6-7k saved up (following the sale of my ford focus and all my life savings). My plan is to get a loan (I have several friends/relatives in the finance world so I will be able to get as good a deal as possible). I would get a loan for about £10k for the car to pay off over however many years and use my savings to pay for insurance and try and maintain a £3k "buffer" in case I cant afford repayments or unexpected repairs etc. Buy this time next year I will have finished uni and be on my way to a proper full time job. I would ideally be after a UK TT auto or manual (not fussed). I have no other financial commitments whatsoever, not even a student loan/overdraft (apart from the misses that is.....). Does this seem like a good plan or would you wait the extra year and then get it? I would just like some brutally honest advice before I resign myself to a summer of 60 working hour weeks. Thanks in advance guys. Lambo (Mark)
  9. Do you mean the sequential gearbox fitted (apparently) to the TVR T440? You use the clutch while pulling away from standstill and for coming to a stop but once you're up and rolling you just punch the lever forwards or backwards to change gear? Didn't know they had got it working properly! Hello everyone by the way! Not got a supra..... yet.....just working out how much I could sell my family and pets for to put towards the supra fund!
