  1. Low signal to noise ratio? you a sound man? I worked in live sound for years, really miss it now... Anyway, off topic...back to technical stuff. adi
  2. This is the whole point, and where the confusion arose, the 2.5 soarer and the 2.5 supra are completely different outside of block and head so mycroft posting a pic of his soarer still wouldnt have cleared the problem up. Glad we got there in the end. Cheers adi
  3. Sorry to hijack the thread, jsut checked..the gearbox on the 2.5tt mk3 is the A342E, not the A340E.
  4. I must admit though, we did go round in circles for at least ten posts
  5. Were actually all on about the same thing. It just got confused. Yes the lambda is in the turbo elbow of the mkiii 3.0t, my mk3 2.5tt, and as you say the mkiv. My cat is in the centre pipe, smack bang in the centre of the car, with a heat sensor. The soarer cat is also in the centre section, yet with a lambda sensor instead of a heat sensor.
  6. Sorry, yes...going from memory. I no longer have my 3.0, just the 2.5.
  7. Right, clarification time. Yes in the mk3 3.0, the lambda is in the downpipe, and the cat is in the centre section (i still have my old 3.0 exhaust in the shed). The cat is also in the centre section of the JZA70, away from the downpipe. Therefore the lambda is in the downpipe, but not in the cat, nowhere near it. It MAY sit in the turbo elbow, it certainly appears to, yet i would have thought this is unlikely. So, we go turbos, turbo elbow, downpipe with lambda, centre pipe with cat and heat senosr, back pipe. So no i haven't got a new downpipe, i have a replacement pipe the same size as the cat, about 12 inches long straight section.
  8. A lambda what? what were we talking about again? Ah yes..i remember No im certain this is a cat heat sensor, like i said earlier my fuelling issues were guesses and nothing else. I've had dodgy running before but that was caused by filling with opti, but spomeone also mentioned that this may have been because of lean running, or igntion. Also someone else looked at my car the other day and said i had a slight miss at high revs. putting it all together i came up with the notion i may have fuel/ignition problems, and all this was totally unrelated to the lambda sensor, it was just coincidence it came about at the same time. Right....next point. I distinctly remember the lambda on my old mk3, size shape etc. I've had a look at my JZA and it appears there is one under the turbo's somewhere, possibly near the downpipe...but like i say very near the turbo's. There may be another but i haven't spotted it yet. I think Ian is right that the lambda is in the downpipe. The 1JZ soarer and 1JZ supra are seem to share block and head, but thats about it. As far as inlet, ECU's, exhaust, and various other bits they are different. So, you can seem my dilemma. At the moment Mycroft and the lexusclub are my best source for info, yet after that its guesswork. Unfortunately there are so few of these in the UK and america its impossible to find decent info written in english. In japan theres loads of them, but even with a translation site its impossible !! adi
  9. I think i have the mk3 box, which is different to both, i'll check on the EPC later today. I know for a fact though i definately can not get over 2200 revs with my foot on the brake, which is not enough to do a power launch.
  10. Well' im happy enough you technical bods have been here to help on this one (and the other two forums i've been posting it on )!! Right, i've now decided its a heat sensor, and as such will leave it alone. Yes Ian it is a 1JZ, on my old 3.0t i seem to remember the lambda sesnor stuck in the manifold, and it was much bigger than this little thing (the one i just removed is about and inch and a half long, thickness of a biro). And it also only has two wires under the sleeve. Its very diffiuclt to make a diagnosis with this engine as although its the same as a soarer, many parts, such as the exhaust .(along with turbo operation, ecu etc)..are different. I may not have a fuelling problem, its just that it was suspicious after some plug fouling and dodgy running...i need to get it checked to be on the safe side. Thanks for everyones help. 11. Right...so is it a cat temp sensor or is it a lambda? There is a light on the dash which illuminates when the cat overheats, and seeing as this is the only sensor in the cat then i suppose it stands to reason it would be the heat sensor for the cat. Although i've no doubt mycroft is also right in his diagnosis as the cat on the soarer defintely has the lambda sensor in it. But the big question is....does my exhaust design follow supra rules or soarer rules.... The 1JZGTE supra seems to be a cross breed between a soarer and some sort of prototype test jobbie for the 2JZ. It shares techologies designs from both, yet also uses its own individual ideas. Madness.. Right, so is there any way of telling what it is...i take it if i find a lambda further up the frontpipes then the cat sensor has to be a for temp, if there isnt one i'll take it its a lambda sensor. or maybe not..
  12. ah, my old 3.0 used to have a HUGE suction on opening the petrol cap when low on fuel. Does this mean somethings knackered re: charcoal filter? The new owners a mate of mine...
  13. Sorry, should explain i've been trying to do it for ages...with no luck whatsoever..think the mk3 box may not be as forgiving as the mk4.
  14. What do you lot do with your lambda sensors after a cat removal? Mine is just hanging above the (now decatted) pipe and apparently causing fuelling problems. Cheers adi
  15. Cheers mycroft, i had a supsicion it was about 10 as i know thats the standard boost, but just wasnt sure if the boost gauge indicated the same.
  16. My gauge goes up to 500mmHg...does anyone know what this is in PSI?
  17. Pagid Fast Road pads, very impressive, particularly when cold but VERY squeaky.
  18. The mongoose has a gorgeous sound to it when fitted to my old mk3, not stupidly loud but enough to sound nice, and the sound is fairly unique and different. Described of as a low frequency blow rather than a rasp or rumble. The finish is good, but the pipes can start to show signs of rusting with a few months, but they'll last for years.
  19. Having said that i can now use the forum after re applying. No word on the club membership though..i did put '2.5 supra' in my details though, am i being kept out because of this? adi
  20. I've had the same trouble as you Chris. Although i must say i found Ian's editorial features very interesting, and gave me a new respect for my 2.5 adi PS anyone know if i can do the lower mod to my supra version of the TEMS?
  21. I'd dearly love to check my level, but the damn dipstick is always completely covered with fluid everywhere. making it impossible to tell anything. adi
  22. Mycroft, is any version of the soarer called the JZA70? I know this is only used for the supra and that the soarers are JZZ or something, but the pics on the site selling the JZA70 ready made BFI actually appear to fit the soarer (looking at that blokes informative BFI diy site) and definately dont fit the JZA70 supra. adi
  23. okay, just deciding on that or a mongoose. cheers adi
  24. Paul, can you beat £155 for the apexi for the JZA70? Thats the best price i've seen so far.
