I hope that's you stroking your ass crack and not me...

I’m in! Might turn up in an MR2, might turn up in a Supra. We’ll just have to wait and see... *strokes beard mysteriously

Great thread. I remember this car coming up in Manchester as I enquired myself. It was great value but I was put off by the lack of service history. Looks like you are well underway reviving it, it's going to be a cracker once you are done. Can I ask where you sourced the front bumper? Did it come with all the fixtures and fittings and how much was it?

Japanese performance show 2018 Tickets now for sale
James Junior replied to MattL2708's topic in National Events
I went to this last year and really enjoyed it. Had more fun wandering round the club stands chatting to car owners than in the main show hall! If I’m in a Supra by that point I’d love to tag along, otherwise I’ll be with the MR2 guys, but will be sure to come say hello. -
Removing bodykits and returning to stock bodywork
James Junior replied to James Junior's topic in Supra Chat
Thanks for all your replies, very useful. Sounds like the skirts and the spats can be removed easily enough, or at least with a few extra hours labour from my paint guy and some potential tidying up afterwards. Does anyone know the cost of a new front bumper and supporting parts from Toyota? Scooter - as I am armed with a good budget I just like the idea of an OEM+ VVTi really. I am not buying for investment, but knowing how rare they are it would be a good place to put some money and just nice knowing you're driving something that is a bit special. Supra_Aero - the cars in those pics just look tacky to my eye and not something I would want to be seen in. I fully appreciate that beauty is in the eye of the beholder however and the modifying scene would be dull if everyone liked the same things. Also the drops on those cars look a bit daft to me. Whilst no-one likes arch gap, I like my suspension modifications to be primarily focussed on impriving driving dynamics, as I often take my cars on tour into the Alps so they often get used in anger. Not into the whole stance thing at all. -
Morning chaps and chapesses, My search for a facelift 6spd TT continues.... without much luck so far. I am adamant that the car I buy will be either OEM or OEM+ in terms of bodywork, with no wacky aftermarket bodykits. Trouble is, finding one is proving a bit difficult. I have engaged Torque GT to try to source me a car in Japan, whilst I look here in the UK. This means I am fortunate enough to have access to the live auctions and fixed price ads in Japan. There are some facelift 6spd TTs coming through, many of which are VVTis, but they are predominently 'R' rated (accident damage repaired) or wearing veilside-esque kits with ironing boards on the boot. The fixed price cars with traders are the same, wearing bodykits that would make Max Power blush. I am curious however, as some of these cars are actually in pretty good condition. How easy and costly would it be remove a kit like that and return a car to stock bodywork? Can you just remove aftermarket skirts and spats and with a bit of cleaning reveal the stock bodywork underneath? How easy is it to source standard bumpers with the ancilliaries to replace after market bumpers? I have a good bodyshop locally so wondering if it might be worth considering the importation of a wacky and wild VVTi and then just return it to stock bodywork.

Not a black one bought from Fionnan by any chance?

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who has been helping me on my search so far. It's nice to find such a friendly and welcoming forum as some have fallen into decline in recent years and become very cliquey. I have had a few private messages highlighting cars for sale and a number of approaches from existing members thinking of selling up. Still not quite found what I am looking for, but reassuring as it seems like I am looking in the right place. If anyone knows of any other facelift manual TTs that might be coming to market please let me know. In the meantime I will bring the MR2 along to the next North West meet next month and come say hello to those of you who are local.

Thanks Paul. Shane kindly messaged me about his car. It sounds like a beast, but I am looking for something still running a twin turbo set up, ideally in a stock or BPU state of tune. Yeah I just checked and see that the white one on PH has disappeared again already. Looks like someone bit his arm off.

How long before we use our cars on track days only?
James Junior replied to herbiemercman's topic in Supra Chat
Don't bet on it if you are going to Switzerland. They'll usually flash you with a mobile camera then pull you in just up the road and fine you. They will do you literally for doing one mile over the speed limit, they HATE speeding. Some of the guys got caught by a fixed point camera at the bottom of Sustenpass. They had just come down off the mountain still buzzing and hadn't got their speed down entering the edge of one of the towns. Camera went off but they never got a ticket and thought they had got away with it....until nearly a year later when they were hit with fines of over 1,000 SFcs as they were more than 20kms over the limit. That said the mountain passes are usually clear for some fun, just the more populated areas that you have to watch yourself. -

Some fantastic roads up there. We did a tour up there back in 2016. Pissed down with rain every single day unfortunately, but still had some memorable drives, especially a friends 911 going completely sideways around a tight slippery turn over a crest on the way to Kylesku! Think he needed a change of underwear and car seat after that one... Would definitely go back to Scotland, but just got to be careful in the more populated areas and motorways on your way to the good stuff as the Scots are ridiculously keen on speeding. I frequently drive to Fife on business and every time I see speed camera vans sat on motorway bridges. ridiculous as the motorways are half empty anyway, a pure money maker. A friends wife got a ticket for doing 78mph on the motorway... -

And ultimately this is the reason for my passion for older cars. A more raw driving experience in a lighter car with less nanny aids means more fun at lower speeds. My outgoing 370Z was so capable after the upgrades I made to the suspension and brakes that you had to be caning it to get the weight moving around and feel properly connected to the experience. My MR2 Turbo is much more fun and although it is quicker than the Z, you don't have to be flying along to enjoy the experience. In addition to a Supra I also fancy a DC2 Integra Type R. 200bhp and a surfeit of torque sounds like the perfect recipe for fun on British B roads at lower speeds to me. -

I often wonder this. I live on the edge of the Peak District and spend the summer months getting up at the crack of dawn or going out for a run at sunset to get the roads mostly to myself. Snake Pass is a 50mph road now however (has been for years), Woodhead is packed with trucks with few safe overtaking spots and Cat and Fiddle is a no go due to speed cameras. Motorway average speed zones are springing up everywhere with yellow cameras at the side of the motorway that will do you even if the average speed cameras are off. It doesn't seem beyond the realms of possibility that a combination of black box tech and developments in surveillance will make high performance cars obsolete on the roads. This is part of the reason why I spend my summers on tour with http://petrolhead.tours/. We regularly hit the Black Forest, the French, Swiss and Italian Alps, deserted country roads in and around the south of France and down into the Pyrenees. We drive like saints in any urban environment but get more opportunity to exploit our cars' performance once into the passes or quieter country roads. Even this comes with it's difficulties. in recent years lots of copy cat driving and rally clubs have set up taking people into Europe on driving experiences and unfortunately many Brits behave like absolute bellends, driving like cocks on motorways or in heavily populated areas. The Swiss are really coming down on it which is fair enough, but now seem to be going out of their way to pick on British drivers as we are all tarred with the same brush. Six of us were stopped in Switzerland in one of the towns last year. We were just minding our own business trundling through the town (not that it's easy to be low profile in a column of performance cars and exotics!) when we were pulled in by two police cars. More police arrived and they kept us at the side of the road for hours. At first they wouldn't even let us get out of our cars and we weren't allowed the engines running, so we had to sit there baking with no aircon. They were really quite intimidating. They couldn't do us for speeding, so they breathalised us all (obviously we hadn't been drinking) and then even tried their best to poke holes in our documents and insurance which all checked out. They seemed annoyed and then one of them triumphantly noticed that we had walkie talkies in the cars. They called the local judge (on a Sunday) and found they could do us for possessing radios without a Swiss radio license, even though we had an Offcom license that was EU compliant (though the Swiss aren't part of the EU of course). After hours by the roadside they fined us 600 SFs EACH! As a result Switzerland is being boycotted and the tours are now going more into Spain and soon Eastern Europe. In these modern times unfortunately the scope for the enthusiastic driver to have some fun on the public road is slimming rapidly. It's a shame as track days just don't float my boat in the same way as the improvisation required to carry momentum down a challenging stretch of road. Got to enjoy what we can whilst it lasts as it's only likely to get worse... -
Hello from new member seeking facelift TT manual
James Junior replied to James Junior's topic in New Members
You're no shrinking violet are you?! Pre-facelift manuals are generally making around £20k to £25k, with post facelifts looking more like £23k and upwards, all dependent on mileage and condition of course. Having an eye on the Japanese auctions is really helpful. I have a login to the live auction data so I have been scouring it daily! -

Thanks Spunkmeyer. I would love to join you tomorrow. What time is the meet? The Z was sold last year. All it took was a mention of selling it to one chap in the owners group and a buyer materialised, paid full ask and the deal was done! Not heard of the young timers event. Perhaps you can tell me more tomorrow evening if I can join you in High Legh. -

Yes, sadly my timing is unfortunate given how prices have moved in the last two years. Markets inevitably ebb and flow however and I am willing and able to pay the cost of entry, so just got to suck it up. I was also in the market for a nice NSX but that really does look like a lost cause the way their prices have gone. Still not seen any more nice Supras coming through the Jap auctions so just got to be patient. Whilst I am ready to move on the right car, I am in no rush to buy so can bide my time. Even if it takes a few months to find the right one (and then a few more to import it if buying in Japan) I have the MR2 Turbo to get my kicks as the weather starts to improve. I took it for a run on Sunday in the nice weather and it had me grinning from ear to ear. Such a cracking little car. -

Hi guys, What a pair of lovely cars. Supras look so good in standard trim, yet it is so rare to see. Having been scouring the auctions and fixed price listings in Japan, cars in standard bodywork are very rare. A few come up with the Aero kits on, but most are heavily kitted. If I did buy one wearing a bodykit, how easy is it to remove skirts and rear spats? Also is it relatively easy to source standard front bumpers? My plan has always been to have one in standard form with just a nice set of wheels. Not averse to improving braking, suspension and power however... -
Hi all, I am in the market for a facelift Supra Twin Turbo 6spd manual. OEM or OEM+ body styling. More concerned with condition than mileage. Not buying for investment, car will be cherished, properly maintained and enjoyed as Toyota intended. Cash waiting, budget up to £30k. If you are thinking of selling up or know anyone who is, please get in touch if you would like the car to go to another enthusiast. Regards James

Looks great, love what you have done with the front bumper, what an improvement.

I have found Classicline very good for my MR2 Turbo. They quoted me £320 for a limited mileage classic policy on a Supra TT manual.

Hi guys, Just signed up and saying hello. I am a long time JDM lover and currently on the hunt for a facelift twin turbo manual, ideally in white and in OEM or OEM+ bodywork. I have engaged Torque GT to search Japan for me and have a login for the Japanese auctions which I am scouring daily, but most of the cars that come up are wearing big bodykits and wings which are not my thing at all. I have an MR2 Turbo which I sometimes display at shows. She was sourced via the owners forums from another enthusiast a few years ago and thought I would try the same here. I will put up a proper wanted ad but just wanted to say hello. It is great to see the forum is still active and going strong in the age of FB. I would love to see some photos of your cars as inspiration to keep me going with my search! Below is a pic of my current MR2 Turbo and my outgoing 370Z, which I hope will be replaced with a Supra soon.
