Hello people - bought an extrernal USB hard drive the other day and when I plug it in it and attempt to transfer data it brings up a message saying that I have a slower USB drive to the product I am using - I reckon the USB drives are running at USB1 speed, when I go to install sp2(which I beleive has the updates for USB2) it wont let me do anything as I have hooky xp pro - anyone got sp2 on cd or tell me where I can download sp2 from ?(which doesnt need me to validate my key) I did a search on limewire and theres loadsa of sp2 patches and keys but I doint know whether to trust them

thanks boys - thats great, I called the guy and he will fix it tommorow - BTW I mentioned that 'cable is fine if it detects on master ' and he said they run off two different cables (?) so it could well be the cable.

Bugger - its only 6 months old Well it seems to suggest the master is ok but its then goes onto detect secondary and says it cant detect - how do I check the cable?Do I need to open up the PC?

For some reason my cd/dvd drive has stopped working on the PC - the disk goes in and the little light flashes but then nothing, and I cant see the disk in 'my computer' either. It was working a few days ago but doesnt work anymore - recently when I book the PC up it says 'detecting primary slave' detecting secondary slave press f4 to abort and this has never happened before (not sure if the two are linked) - any suggestions?

I thought about digging out pics of the batmobil but its all too depressing

Anyone else watching this ? Showing how speed guns can give false readings if the operator has a shakey hand - 10 readings and the 11th gave a 29mph vehicle a 57mph reading very worrying

Dude after an hour of harrassing them and telling them what you have advised they have now admitted there *may* be a DNS issue and are looking into it futher. I told them I CANT ping a URL but can ping an IP and ns look up also fails - bloody hell I sounded like I knew what I was talking about ! LMAO (little did they know!) anyway they admitted this is defo DNS related in the end and that the other guy had fobbed me off big up yourself Rogue ( & Cali) And I've learned something too

So is that why when I type in an IP address it finds it quicker than if I type in a URL? Also well done to Rogue (you swat ) Even though it seems to be what you and cali al diagnosed NTL are denying it and saying that if it was a DNS problem there switchboard would be going mental and its not They said its the set top box where the BB connection comes from which is not getting a good signal (due to a power surge or something) as such its not smooth and causing intermittent problems. I explained the nslookup results and the guy said that ties in with a disrupted signal from the set top box to the computer. They are resetting it now anyway Does that sound correct or are they bullshitting me ?

yey ! So I have defo not got a virus or something then? Thats a relief - can someone explain what a DNS is? and is it a local thing? Tehy did do a check by asking me to download a file and it downloaded really quickly - the guy on teck support said that 'this eliminates there being a local problem as your connection and download speed is fine for a 2meg pipe' He then said 'it seems like a program on your PC is affecting your computer or you have downloaded a virus which is slowly eating away at your connection' naturally I got scared as all my work stuff in on here

so I went to run cmd then typed in nslookup http://www.whatdomain.com is that correct ? Im not sure where to find the DOS prompt I got the attached when I did it anyway
