Yea aux belt removed cam cover removed and still the same the rattle is very faint since the bottom end bearings were replaced where as it was a lot louder before hand the rattle only accurs just above idle the goes away if revved any higher I'd say between 800-1000rpm it rattles and I'm talking a very faint rattle I'd have to point it out to you for you to notice it.

Quick update on the tapping engine all plumbed in running but still has a slight tap nothing like before not had a proper listen but sounds like it's coming from the torque converter only rattles when revved just over idle the goes away are torque converters known for making these noises ? The gearbox changes smoothly and dosent slip I'm not sure what to do next

As per title na torque converter wanted cheap as possible can collect if it's not too far out. Thanks

A replacement engine was the first port of call but finding one you know is 100% ok is very hard engine pulled out over the weekend and as we expected main bearings are worn 2 of them more so than the others on the plus side absolutely no damage to the crank bearings now on order from whifbitz

Agreed that is the concerning part I'm hoping iv caught it in time before any serious damage has been done I've stoped the oil and inspected it there is a small about of metal particles in the oil no shards of metal tho

Ok so looks like my engine might need to be stripped as I've got a rattle going on that sounds like the crank bearings are shot. Now if this is the case I'll be replacing all the bearings in the bottom end and most likely replace the headgasket and piston rings while it's out so I've got a fresh engine .Now my question is I was planning to go na-t next year this is still out of my budget but do I buy a tt headgasket and have it fitted ready for the following year when I go the turbo route?.I know the compression will be altered but will I still be able to use it as normal with out causing it any issues.

Cheers guys it's off into a garage at the weekend we think it's the crank bearings as we have had a listen under the car and the noise is louder I'll keep you updated over the weekend

Hi this sort of question is obviously very hard to diagnose without hearing or seeing the problem. Any in put with regards to where I should start looking will be greatly appreciated. I had the car idling yesterday with the bonnet up and I could hear a faint tapping noise what seemed to be coming from the top of the engine. The tapping disappears when revved past 1000rpm engine oil is at the correct level car runs spot on. It's so faint I can not hear it if the radio or fan is on.

Hi guys iv just took the car for drive and the master warning light flashes briefly when I go over bumps. It's stays on constant along with the open door light when I turn right only right when i straighten up the lights go off. Can anyone tell me where I should start looking first. Has anyone come across this issue before i drove the car yesterday and it was perfectly fine.

I'd buy a replacement ecu I had a similar issue with mine not to long ago and a replacement was cheaper than repairing it

I had this issue a while bk it turned out to be something to do with the pink wire behind the odometer that needs bypassing it's a 5min job and it worked for me well worth a try

Iv had the same issue with fj went from 200 to 410 never made a claim. I called them up and asked them what the crack is and they said there is a new law come in regarding classics that are not garaged. This is the reason mine has gone up like many others. I haven't a clue if there was any truth in that or she was just bullshitting me to try and keep my custom She discounted me 20 quid lol. Long story short I've gone with rh specialist insurance they were half the price.
