jaymdee
Just a quick thought, as I'm going to Marham in 2 weeks. I had new rear disks and pads fitted last May and new front disks and pads fitted in June. I have done approx 8000 miles on the rears and 6000 on the fronts (mostly motorway and slow moving Bristol traffic). Is it likely I'll need new pads before Marham. Going to have a look now, but just thought I'd see what people normally expect to get out of their pads. cheers
JohnnyW
Not too sure but I'd imagine Auto's eat them up quicker than manual's.
Steve
Depends on how hard you brake mate I once went through a set of brake pads and new disks on a Astra in 5000 miles, the boss wasnt to happy
jaymdee
Not too sure but I'd imagine Auto's eat them up quicker than manual's. Why's that? Is it because you do more engine breaking in a Manual?
JohnnyW
I'm not sure if I'm totally correct on that statement I do feel that I use the brake a bit more in the auto around town. In traffic in a manual you use clutch control and correct power you don't need to brake as much whereas in the auto you don't have quite as much control as it'll keep moving in D. Again just my feeling I'm sure I'll probably get shot down in flames soon.
colsoop
I will be taking spare pads with me to Marham just in case.
jaymdee
Had a quick look while it was still light and there's loads of pad on all 4 corners
Chris Wilson
If they are stock pads and you drive the thing properly, about a lap
jaymdee
If they are stock pads and you drive the thing properly, about a lap I'm a bit 'driving miss daisy' to be honest Chris, so will probably have plenty left on them after a day at Marham
fri3ndly
In traffic in a manual you use clutch control Yep, I bet manuals go through more clutches though
Chris Wilson
Just be very aware of the possibility (probability) of pad or fluid fade. Neither is good
Homer
I did over 25k miles on a single set of Chris Wilson fast road pads. They still had more than 40% of the pad left when I sold the car. Those miles were mostly quite easy on the brakes though (motorway/commuting)
