eyefi
i've had a strange idle for a while. it started with the idle sticking at 2k at a junction then generally dropping down to a normal level after a couple of seconds. if i pulled up with the clutch engaged and disengaged when the revs were 1k then it wouldn't happen, like the vac helped pull something closed. for quite a while now nothing has happened, it's been fine, fixed itself, except that a couple of days ago it kept stalling (at junctions) for quarter of an hour then it fixed itself again. it did it again a few days later, exactly the same. now, today it's idle is stuck at 2.2k and it's not going down. all the other people at junctions seem to be really enjoying this but it's really annoying me. the TPS voltage remains the same, so this almost rules out the throttle sticking open so i'm thinking idle control valve. any other options i'm not thinking of? cheers. JohnA
I once had similar symptoms and it was a sticky idle control valve
JohnK
Only time ive experienced similar problems it was the anti stall on the emanage not set correctly. But you have SAFC IIRC?
eyefi
cheers johns. i'm on powerFC, it could be related to that but i doubt it, it will idle funny and be ok with the same data file and nothing funny shows up on the datalogs. if (when idling funny) i change the idle speed on the powerFC it has no impact on the idle speed. Ian C
Probably the idle control valve sticking open then. Seems the simplest explanation. it's where I'd start -Ian
JohnA
Try cleaning it with some carb cleaner (02 safe!) and see if it gets better [NOT WD-40, it will damage your oxygen sensor(s)]
TLicense
Maybe the idle valve, maybe also the TPS plug. If it has a bad connection then it won't let the car drop into the idle circuit, but eh solonoid is parked so it just revs it's tits off. When it next does it, get out and give the TPS plug a wiggle. That may solve it. I had this issue, took me about two years to solve it. I kept thinking it was something in the idle settings of my map. Finally found it to be this, fixed it - jobs a good 'un. If not then I agree go for the sticky valve.
JohnA
Get a contacts spray from an electronics shop. Always worth a shot.
absz
just adding to the puzzle:) had similar problems with engine reving at 2k constant turned out to be a faulty coolant sensor

JohnK
If a blip sorts it, id say it was the idle control valve

JohnK
On other cars ive just sprayed lots of carb cleaner down it, its a bitch to start after and is lumpy as hell for a few seconds after as it all burns off, but usually does the trick. Jurgen-Jm-Imports
so no need to remove it etc etc
JohnK
I have always done them in situ, just take a hose off that leads to it and spray down that, leave for 5 for it to do its work then start the car. As I said before I have never done this on a supe, only other cars.
