Dave S
anyone managed to remove the oil pump with engine still in the car.....gone too far with it now and it has to come off..... cheeers Dave
Miguel
You have to drop the sump and sump spacer to remove the pump ...the casing of the pump sits down behind the sump spacer so you will never be able to pull it off the crank..it will move a little but no cigar. Dave S
is it poss to drop the sump enough with the engine in the car??
Miguel
It's a Royal PITA without droping the cross. Very very fidly in situ and a right mare to clean up all the surfaces to re seal them ...no gaskets its all RTV so you will probs create more leaks than fixing. Has the pump failed why are you removing it ?
Gaz Walker
As Mig says, a bitch of a job. Same question too, why are you removing it? Gaz.
Dave S
major oil leak...thought it was front crank seal....but looked ok,wasnt 100% convinced it was that, so decided to remove pump to check and modify the pressure relief valve, I could only pull the pump off halfway then it stops......if I'd known about the sump I would have tried only a new seal first....anyway pump all unsealed now so I have to carry on.... Guest Terry S
Dave you will need to strip various bits off the engine and Jack the engine up in order to remove the sump with the engine in the bay. TBH its a mare. You could drop the subframe, but again, mare.
Dave S
ha...just what I needed after 2 years rebuilding .... another major nightmare...i'll have to have a go and see what happens...... cheeers Dave
arnout
It's easy to remove the sump while engine is in the car. Just drop the subframe slightly and you are ready to go.
Chris Wilson
Engine support beam across inner wings, support engine, drop suspension and subframe as a unit, free access to unserside of engine. Support fromes capable of safely holding the 2JZ-GTE lump are about 100 quid or maybe less "on offer". You REALLY need a ramp though to take full advantage. Draper do a good beam, i bought one a few weeks ago as i lent my old one to someone who then managed to lose it!

Miguel
Yeah as said above I think your best bet now that you have started is to get her up on stands and brace the engine to remove the cross. Have fun.
Guest Terry S
As stated Dave, you have the two choices. Enjoy mate!
Dave S
will do Terry....not quite the amount of work I was expecting ...but think its worth doing if it helps prevent blowing out the seal every five minutes, cheeers Dave
