auto box help needed

Hi guys

Right I am a bit confused about the auto box on the mkiv supra.

In japanese performance magazine a review on the mkiv supra says and I quote

"The four speed ECTiS automatic transmission is not particularly out of place in this potent machine, because its electronic control allows it to switch between normal automatic action for relaxed driving and A MANUAL MODE when the driver feels more agressive."

could anyone tell me if this is the case with the auto box on the mkiv supra and if so how do you switch between the manual and auto mode and how does the manual mode work. I have included a picture of the type of box in question.

I know this might sound like a stupid question but I need to know for when I go and test drive a supra on saturday. Also what does the button to the left of the changer do (see picture) and the little red button to the right?

Any help would be much appreciated

Cheers

The Manu button allows you to use L 2 or D as 1st 2nd and 3rd just like a manual gearbox. You can go right up to the redline (and beyond) and the car wont change for you.

It allows quicker starts than just leaving it in D

The button your circled is the MANU button this allows you to keep the car in first second or third. turn of in D put it in fouth and back to auto mode. although if you turn in on in D and leave it in D it will still go through the gears. confused yet??! The red button allows you to take it out of park when the engine is off. pres and hold and pul the lever back. The overdrive just leaves it in 3rd also. :)

right ill see if i have got this right.

the red button allows my to move the changer without the car being switched on - GOT IT!

Then if i want to go into manual mode I select D then press the manual button. (is there a light on the dash to show its engaged).

Now in manual mode do i just knock the lever up and down to go through the gears?

Finally to get out of manual mode is it just a case of pressing the manual mode button again?

Its all very confusing....
