automatic gearbox confusion

Hi Guys

Been to test drive a 97 supra sz today but had a few problems using the automatic gearbox

I haven't driven a supra before let alone an automatic one so it was a bit alien to me. The problem I had was that I couldn't get it out of park and into drive. In the end it relyed on me pressing a little red button to the right of the changer to move it. As the car is a japenese import the writing next to the button is in japanese. Does anyone know what this button does and what the label says?

Also on the changer there are two buttons. One which i held in while changing from park to drive etc and then a smaller button underneath. again does anyone know what this does?

Also I read a review of the mkiv supra in japanese performance magazine and it said that you can have the auto box in normal mode or a manual mode. Is this true and if so how is this mode selected and used.

One final one for you, does the 97 sz have a kick down. I tried it a couple of times but nothing happened?

If you haven't guessed I am not a mechnically minded driver and can't speak japanese so if anyone could explain the auto box to me a bit more that would be great.

Many thanks

Bollocks just typed a big long reply and my computer crashed :complain:

So heres a quick one:

Yes they all have kickdown.

The big button on the side lets you get out of park into drive.

The small button is the overdrive button and gives you a 4th gear. If it is turned offf you should see a light come on in the dash under the speedo/tacho.

The red button is a valet button allowing you to put the car in neutral with the engine turned off.

You can mnaully shift by moving the stick into 1st (also required to press the big button), 2nd and 'D'.
