Suspension

All,

I''m still investigating suspension. I'd like to get as much information about kits as possible. I've spoken to CW about his kit, and unfortunately he's not able to give out too much info due to the fact some unscrupulous gits will copy his kit if he does. A sad world we live in.

Anyway, I know it's been raved about on here, but everyone's perception of what is an acceptable ride and what is not is different.

So is there anyone out there that could take me for a "spirited drive" who has Chris' suspension kit?

My alternative is to buy a kit that has adjustment so that I can tune it to what I would prefere (which without testing CW's kit could well end up being adjusted to something so close to Chris's kit if you see what I mean)

Basically I'm not going to buy anything without having imperical data, which as I mentioned above, unfortunately isn't available, or having had a good test of the kit first, or something that can't be adjusted within a given set of parameters.

Any one got any suggestions or fancy taking my for a blast up the road and back?

I have the Tein Flex suspension with EDFC. This allows you to set the ride (dampening not height) from inside the car in 12 or 24 incremental stages. It also allows you to set a different setting for both front and rear. Now, I am not saying that this is better or worse than the CW system (in terms of quality of components) but you should be able to adjust the system to match your requirements. In saying that, I am still going to have CW look over the whole thing to check the geometry etc.

Unfortunately, as my car is not yet back on the road, I am unable to take either of you out for a trial run :(

I have JIC suspension on mine which was setup by CW, its a little hard but the handling has been transformed and is well worth it, can`t wait for my next track day.

I have my old yellow bilsteins with lowering springs for sale which CW bases his own kit on but he mods them.

Yeah that would be good

Terry...Chris...hopefully u guys are reading this thread, what do u think, can u help us transform our cars handling on the cheap :D

No! :Pling: ;) Sorry, there's sod all profit in my kits as it is. I may produce them as ride height adjustable at some stage, but really there's little or no need for this. I am worried someone will drop a car down to a silly low height then say CW's kit's crap....

Bit of a long shot but if you find youself / can be bothered coming ooop norf then you're more than welcome to come for a (hopefully not literal !) spin in mine. Personally I value the CW suspension that I haf fitted to mine as the biggest real world improvement in all round performance available as it improves the car in many more ways than just cornering. Took McCanny for a go in it one night and here are his thoughts:

Granted it's not cheap but trust me it does the job superbly.

Tony,

I fitted JIC FLT2 to my car, more probably because i wanted to lower the front and not wait around as i work away most of the time.

The flt2 is a adjustable system, expensive, and is quite ultimate as others may testify, personally if you have the time maybe go for CW suspension, it is all down to personal preferences, as i needed to lower my car for cosmetic looks.

If you fit Chris Wilsons kit at least you have some backup and it is tried and tested and he does know what he is talking about.

I also have the JIC FLT-A2 set up with Whiteline anti-rollbars front and rear and whiteline bushes all round.

Going to this set up from KYB non-adjustable, eibach springs, 115,000 mile suspension bushes and stock ARB's was like getting into a different car. I had to learn how to drive it on the limit again because the limit had moved way past where i was used to it being.

I went for this set up because I needed the adjustable ride height to promote oversteer for drifting but I wanted a quality ride for the motorway.

I've never ridden in another supra apart from mine, let alone one with CW suspension or any other specialist suspension set up, but the JIC FLT-A2 Terry s got for me transformed the car and did exactly what he said they would.

I think suspenision is very much down to personal preference and almost any setup will need to be tweaked once fitted to get what you want from it. Also don't under-estimate how much difference bushes and ARB's can make.
