Is there a definite answer to removing the trrac fuse on a UK?

OK so I'm blonde! I just rembered that I never pulled my trac fuse, I use to just use the button!

Having done it today, I'm impressed with the improvement:thumbs: Question is, I dont notice any difference in harshness of changes on the auto? Is there a now a definite theory on this one?

And can you stop the OD light flashing?

I was always was led to beleive that the Auto ECU retards the timing on gear changes so to protect the auto box from taking too much power as it engages its next gear???

I never understand how the pulling the TRAC fuse prevents this from happening?

Does the ECU take a signal from the Traction Controll system to tell it that the car is about to change gear thus causing the ECU to retard the timing??

I can only imagine that without that signal from the traction controll system (with fuse pulled), the ECU never retards on gear change?

Apparently, on gear changes in an auto, the TRC butterfly in the TB closes momentarily to make it easier on the gearbox. Pulling the trac fuse will stop this, which is said to lead to a reduced gearbox life, but how reduced nobody is sure.

FWIW, Terminator has had his TRC butterfly removed for a few years now on an auto, and has not had any problems, so not something to have sleepless nights over.

Strange. Performance wise, first pulls much much stronger and second gears comes on alot stonger but no difference in the actual change. In actual fact the change appears to be smoother?

Shame you can't do this with the VVTi tiptronic models.

Pulling the trac fuse results in increased idle, elimination of anti squat (makes the initial engagement of gears from neutral smoother) and greatly reduced sensitivity on the fly by wire throttle. So much so that it wont start to increase revs until 1/2 way down, a bit like the dreaded snow mode

Probably the only way to remove it is to remove the butterfly, but sometimes that ultra quick manual change sound, you get when accellerating hard is nice

If I could find a way of stopping it messing with the butterfly at WOT I'd put up with that. Any takers?

depends if you drive with the TC generally off or on. I used to just pull mine to save pressing the button to turn it off every time. No performance advantage, but no chance of any damage to anything either.....

I thought it still retarded the timing using the button? Makes a noticable difference to mine. I knows its an auto but as said the changes up dont feel harsher but it pulls very differently.

so am i right in saying it just gives the driver a bit more controll over the car?i always drive with it on,cant say i'v really noticed any difference,but there again i aint been on the limits much latley.
