Oil level sensor missing?

I have dismantled a couple of engines now and know that the oil level sensor is mounted in the top sump. On starting to have a little engine bay clear up i noticed the following blanking plate(see pic1) where the sensor is usually located?

Now I know my oil pressure sensor is mounted differently to the early models in that it doesn't mount directly into the block but into the oil filter/cooler housing (pic 2) but i cannot see where they would put a low level oil sensor or possibly if it even has one!!!!

I'll check later to see if the usual symbol lights up on ignition startup.....but does anyone know anything about this, or fancy checking their 98 on cars (will be difficult to see it on a TT i'd have thought)
