Cambelt

My cambelt on my manual N/A '94' has just gone, is this a massive problem as I've heard this engine is a non-interference engine?

Apparently the belt wasn't tensioned correctly when it was put on about 10K km's ago, by a certain import specialist near Newbury, Berkshire(i think they've gone out of business now).

It seems slightly strange how I didn't notice any problems and neither did the garage I took it to, to have it serviced.

I'm thinking the place I brought the car from didn't actually replace the belt when they said they did, and I've just reached 103K km's so it was going to go soon enough I suppose.

Other than that the car has been brilliant for 18 months.

:(

Sorry to hear that mate.

The TT is (so the story goes) non interference. I don't think anyone on here is 100% certain about the NA, but it looks like we are about to find out. Hopefully for you it isn't.

If you've had no valve / piston clash then it should just be a matter of slipping on a new belt and off you go. If not, then you are in a spot of bother.

Fingers crossed for you!

From what i can gather you 'Should' be ok.

I found the following Data:-

Toyota Timing Belts

Engine _ Recommended Interval

3.0L Inline 6, (except 1998 2JZ-GE) -53

3.0L* 1998 Inline 6, 2JZ-GE -53

3.0L V6 -53

3.4L -53

4.7L* 90,000 Mi.

* - Interference engine.

So from that it seems that only 98 on VVTi NA's (ie possibly mine:eek: ) are interference engines.

I best get mine done me thinks!

i used to work on the greenham site so know a little about what happened. apparently he owed about £350 000 in taxes so did a runner. the blokes who worked for him were out of pocket so basically took whatever they could get. i was up there when one bloke came to pick up his scooby but they couldnt find the keys. looking around the car he thought something was a little odd and looked underneath and noticed engine was missing. to say he was a bit annoyed was an understatement. bastards

Cheers for the help guys!

Luckily the car is okay :) and I should be picking it up today, however they also tried to replace another pulley at the bottom of the cambelt but after ordering the part and trying to fit it, they've found I'll need a part from Japan. Apparently it will be ok to drive but they suggest replacing the part asap as its looking a bit dodgy.

Once I get more info on the part I will order it, but I'm not sure who to go to, because I normally get parts from uk.

Does anyone know who to use???? Could I get it in uk??
