disabled drivers...

hi all,

My dad who is registered disabled is on the hunt for a new car and is on the mobility scheme however he is VERY limited as to what he can get, mainly due to things that most drivers may find trivial such as the door handles as he struggles to open many due to problems with his hands/grip...we've looked at about 20 different cars & he can only open about 3 :s

now apart from actually gaining entrance to a car the next problem is starting it as he finds it difficult to get the key in the ignition barrell & turn it...which leads me onto my next question, does anyone know of any companies that specialise in this kind of thing?

i suggested just going to a 'normal' car alarm company & see if they can fit somekind of push button start etc but not sure if its sumthing they can do without fitting the whole package (which he wouldn't want)

I can certainly find out who my does my "brother in laws" car, as he is wheel chair bound. Needless to say he has no major issues but he is mobile upper body wise. He has had a few M3s and currently has a CSL.

ahh thanks gav, any info would be greatly appreciated, my dad has the use of his legs altho does use a wheelchair if going out for an hour or more, he can only drive automatics but can manage all other operations ,its mainly his grip as he can't do things like clench his fist etc

When I brought my Do Luck T78 Supra from Scottsperformance in 2005 it had been reconverted back from hand controls, the previous owner was disabled and had the controls on the steering column, I was amazed at first but I guess the Supra Auto is very easy to drive if you can actually get in and out of course, and the seat position is very snug with all the buttons and dials wrapped around you

He used to keep the wheel chair in the boot with the seats down
