Stevie72
Gentlemen/Ladies When accelarating 9/10 the power is fine. But now and again when i boot it (in both Auto and Manual) the rev's go up really slow and sometimes don't even go past 5,000 rpm. The Turbos sound fine and the power is still there most of the time, its just the odd time the above happens. Is is my clutch plates?? any ideas as it's p ing me off - Anyone know any decent garages in the Colchester area to take it to for a look over??? Thanks and Kind Regards
evanshaw
I've had this a few times myself to be honest. There aren't any clutch plates involved as you're obviously running an Auto. I put it down to being off boost and in a high gear at the time. When you floor it you need to really put your foot to the floor so that the kickdown switch gets activated and the gear drops. Maybe one of the more experienced among us can explain better, as it's the only thing I can really think of or put it down to.
Stevie72
It's a little starnge and sometimes embarrassing getting passed by a Corsa!!! When it was getting stuck, i took my foot off again and put my foot to the floor and then it was OK again. Someone did mentioned internal clutch plates wearing, even on an Auto? Homer
Moved to Technical. I've heard this problem reported a few times now and as far as I remember there was no conclusive answer as yet. Off for a search... Edit - dammit, can't find the other thread(s)...
BASHTHEBISHOP
Am sure i remember people saying it was to do with the actuators. I also get this running an auto and just lift my foot off & replant it. Turbos have always come online 2nd time around & it happens very rarely. Stevie72
Yes it only happens rarely, but have noticed it a little more frequently. Bit of a pain in the rear end when you're trying to give it a bit to get past someone. Would be must appreciated for any help guys n girls - ps Homer the £10 cheque is in the post. Many thanks and kind Regards
Homer
When this 5krpm 'stalling' happens, does it go back to normal if you take your foot off the gas and reapply? What boost pressure are you seeing when this happens, is it different to normal (i.e. lower)? PS: You've run out of free posts so only have a few hours until you won't be able to reply. PM me with details of how you paid and I'll sort something out for you.
Homer
Stevie PM'd me with the following: Yes i took my foot of gas and kicked it and it seemed ok. The bost pressure is must less - like your in 5th gear even though it is def 2nd i.e the rmp goes up very slow from about 2 - 5rpm and then pretty much gets stuck Then when you slow down and put your foot down again - it's fine and goes like stink! So, this is almost certainly the 'common' VSV problem many of us have experienced. Unfortunatly I can't recall the exact VSV/actuator that causes the 2nd turbo to fail to spool. Any ideas folks? I had the same issue with my car when it was TT, after a long while of cruising the 2nd turbo would occasionally fail to spool resulting in all the flow to go through #1, which is not good for it! Stevie72
I have just read an interesting thread about the VSV, but problem is I'm a pen pusher so it's all a bit French to me!! Fantastic that we might have narrowed in down a bit and sounds very very similar to what the other chaps have had, so pretty sure were in the right ball park. Well any further information guys would be much appreciated - i think i might take it down to Nexus in Southend (chap on here told me they're pretty good) and ask them to have a look. Thanks again. Stevie72
Any ideas what it should cost in labour / parts to have something like this sorted if it is the VSV / Actuator or maybe damaged hoses??
Homer
Any ideas what it should cost in labour / parts to have something like this sorted if it is the VSV / Actuator or maybe damaged hoses?? We would need to establish which VSV or actuator is at fault, some are easy/cheap to replace, others are a nightmare. I hope that tomorrow someone can confirm the one that causes this, after which a fix can be recommeneded. It's something simple I'm sure of that, but buying new parts will not be cheap. I very much doubt it's the hoses. I wouldn't bother with any normal garage for this, it'll need to be a Supra specialist to correctly diagnose. Stevie72
It seemed to be OK yesterday, but i believe it to be the 2nd turbo failing to spin at around 4rpm. I think on a thread in 2005 it said about the EACI needs to be checked/replaced??
Stevie72
http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=49070&highlight=iacv This is the attachment I found - i think it it the IACV that needs checking??? Should i just take it to a specialist and ask them to have a look??
