Pabs
Hey all, I know that most people will say Supra to the question, especially on the supra forums, but really wanted opinions on a few things. Had my heart set on a Supra TT for ages now, but I've always had the Toyota Altezza/IS200 in the back of my mind as an alternative. I know there is no comparison between the Supra TT (320bhp) and a standard Altezza RS200 (210bhp), but slapping a turbo kit on the Altezza would match things up a bit more - and it'd be a sleeper The reason why I'm thinking of the Altezza again is because of physical size/weight of the supra in comparison, the age of the supra (13 ish years vs 7yrs) and possibly the economy of the supra for everyday driving. I wouldn't want immense power - 400-500bhp is more than enough for me. (Upper end not really reachable with the Altezza, prob 380/400bhp max) I know I'd get more info from the lexus forums, but thought I'd try here first. Anyone on here had/got an Altezza and modified it? What's it like on economy? And finally - do people think I'm being silly - and just get a Supra instead? Cheers folks. Muffleman
Mate of mine took me out in his IS200, and he floored it ! Raced through all the gears, and I'm sat there thinking 'yeah this is okay', then I looked out the window and realised that the trees weren't going by very fast Add a turbo in and yeah they'd be okay, plus you've got something a bit more practical, but that's pretty much the end of the road with it. If you've had your heart set on a TT then buy a TT, especially if you don't need the practical element, save that for when you have kids. At least with a TT, if you get a bit bored you can go BPU, and when bored again you can go single
Pabs
u recon an Altezza + turbo would have similar economy to a TT supra? I'm still a little worried about using a Supra as a daily driver. It will definately depend on where my next job is though - the redundancy will be here in Jan. Muffleman
Ah right, missed the economy bit Well the IS200 will be better on economy as it's a 2.0 isn't it ?
Pabs
yeh - 2.0 - but when you've stuck a turbo on it??? It's around 29mpg standard, but would expect it to be a fair bit less once it's modded?
Tones
is200 are 6cyl 160bhp uk spec rs200 are 4cyl 207bhp Altezza beams tuned Jspec Big difference but even the altezzas arent that quick until u are well up in the revs, theres a good few in Ireland with turbos and a lot in Japan, ive owned two standard altezzas and loved them, sheer comfort!!!! I was only referring to them as IS200's as I couldn't be arsed to type Altezza all the time LOL. If I were to get one it'd definately be the rs200 - I've currently got a SEAT Leon with around the 220bhp mark so the IS200 would seem slow in comparison. Pabs
well - that Altezza above was one that kinda put the car back into the picture for me - my mate sent me pics of that on MSN and now I don't know if I should get Supra or not.... I think a lot of money would need to be thrown at an Altezza to get the sort of power I want - so I may just stick with a Supra.
Pabs
OK people - next question: How much do people think it'd cost to slap a TT engine into the Altezza/IS200?????

Doesn't really seem like much bang for your buck..... Look at the top tune for a 2.0 litre. Mitsi FQ400 arguably. Tested at Topgear and a Punto beat it off the line due to the lag. Even the Stig couldn't keep it on song on a timed lap. Supercharger will give you the torque to pull away but basically you need a grunty powerful engine to start with to make the most of 'em. ie not a 2 litre. 'spose that's why Subaru and Mitsi go for turbo's. Just my opinion and not pretending to be clever in this area.
Pabs
that's cool mate - opinions is what I wanted - and of course anyone with knowledge is useful too! Fargo
theres a white one in the uk somewhere with supra engine with single turbo too, 600bhp That would be Mat's he runs the UK lexus owners club, the car is commonly know as The Monster and it now spends its time Drifting in various events. There is also an is200 with a 2jz over in ireland http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/index.php?showtopic=35688&hl= and also one in australia http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/index.php?showtopic=37564&hl=obsessed
AndyT
I do love the IS range. I was going to buy one too. Great quality. Then I realized I could afford a Supra, (dream true etc.) If you really want to spend on modding then the amount of expertise available should factor in to your equation purely to stop you wasting money. I don't see Mr Walker or Whiffin advertising "Worlds fastest Altezza" etc. and of course Mr Sumo Power's cars aren't too shabby are they? End of the day... the above mentioned experts are here and have done just about everything, they have selected their preferred models on experience and they win.
