Monitor query

I have acquired a 22" LCD monitor and have a question regarding its display.

 

When looking at normal things like the forum etc it is fine but when watching a DVD through Windows media player, it becomes rather dark. I have tried changing the contrast and brightness but these do nothing whilst the DVD is playing but work fine when just viewing a normal screen

I had a similar problem which I *think* turned out something to do with another multimedia component I'd got installed or driver conflict... I can't remember exactly what it was though.

 

Did it do it on the old CRT screen?

I think I have been a bit dumb here. Now that I have closed the outside shutters and stopped the sun shining on the screen, it is much better

Maybe the screen doesn't have a very good contrast, so normal pages look fine as they are mostly made up of bright pages, but as soon as you put a film on, which will be darker, you struggle when there is bright ambiant light.

In the nvidia control panel is a utility to set up your monitors colours and display settings.

It is all OK now chaps. I reset the monitor to "picture" (you could do, picture, gaming, film and general) and that, coupled with closing the blinds and stopping the sunlight, has worked OK.
