Hey All,

Posting this as couldnt believe it.

We recently took delivery of 11 SUN v245 servers which had no DVD drives, we called SUN and ordered 11 DVD-RW drives, nice and quick service, they arrived today.

I then asked how much we paid, over 200 quid each.

This is the drive :-

This is them for sale without a SUN face plate and box :-

Basically SUN have charged approx 175 for a plastic panel to match the front of the server and a SUN cardboard box.

I am in the wrong job

In my work one of the printers powerpacks went down. We called in EDS as they are meant to deal with all this stuff and they sent out a quote in letter form. The cable was going to be charged at £185+VAT the labour would be £150+VAT for the first hour and £125+VAT for every 20 mins after that.

We went onto the HP website to see about the powerpack and found it for £35.

Bloody chancers!

Cisco do the same with flash memory, £200 from them, £5 from play.com

The stickers they put on them aren't free you know!

And there has to be enough left over to pay for all those glass and steel offices in Bedfont Lakes.

That's pretty standard practice really.

IBM have similar markups for mini-pci wireless cards, DVDR/W drives, etc. All standard stuff.

Dell will charge you £200 for a £70 hard drive. They will sell you a Quad-Core Xeon 2.whateverGHz server for £599 and charge you £599 for an additional processor of the same type as already included in the machine.
