Quick fix fog lamp

Recommended Posts

Ive got an MOT coming up soon and no fog lamp.

I just need an interim fog lamp to get it through the MOT. Im not bothered about sticking on one of those fog lamp things you can get down halfrauds :)

How big a job is this? Any ideas on how I can get this sorted?

Cheers!

Why dont you just do the job properly then you dont have to worry about it each year. its a piss easy job.

Red bulb in the drivers side reverse lamp , alumination live feed to a switch somewhere on the dash then run a live back from the switch to the bulb holder of the drivers reverse lamp. Also earth the switch.

You can pick a alumination feed from most lit switches on the dash. Because legally the fog light should only be able to work when the lights are on. Hence why you take an aluminaton feed.

Usually takes me about an hour or two , the biggest pain is running the live feed from the switch to the back of the car.

Sorry for resurrecting an old thread, but needs must :)

I've been playing with my car today, as when I bought it there was no working rear fog light. This obviously worried me slightly as I need one for MOTs, and didn't know what I had on the car. Paul had told me it had the rear fog light mod done, but we never managed to see it working.

Anyway - today I took off the rear light, had a look, and put it back on again. Didn't do anything - but low and behold I now have a working rear fog light! It appears that the RHS reverse light has a red bulb in for a fog light. Excellent :)

However - 1 problem I have, is that now, when my lights are on, the rear fog light bulb lights up dimly - but you can see it enough for it to look very odd.

What could be causing this? Is it just a dodgy earth perhaps? On this mod, where should there be earth connections?

I think it would be as follows:

+12v from dash->switch - switch->rear bulb +ve - bulb -ve to ground in boot?

Well looks like I've fixed it now - Really don't know what I did but assume there is a dodgy earth connection perhaps behind the switch on the dash or something.

Now when it's off, it's off, and when it's on, it's on. Only 1 reversing light, but hey, I'll be going forwards most of the time :D
