Web site advice

Well, you can tell the season is over now eh? My post rate has just shot up dramatically - as has my requests for info :D

OK, I have an idea for a small venture out here in Kos. In a nutshell, I want to set up an online property rental agency that will service the needs of people who want to holiday for long periods or who want to move out here permanently.

I want a site that I can upload words and pics very easily (I am a technical numpty) and have a contact us page too.

Is this something I can buy "off the shelf"? Is this something folks on here provide? If it is, would you like to contact me and discuss prices etc?

There are plenty of free templates that will serve your purpose.

There are a few here: http://andreasviklund.com/templates/

They are easy to change to your own needs you may need some software though to edit effectively.

Dreamweaver is good for editing and also some ftp software such as core ftp to upload to your webspace.

You will also need to register a domain name.

Thanks Col. Is this site here the same type of thing? Does that site you mention allow multi pages and are they all then editable i.e. can you change images and text when things get let or taken off the market?

Finally, how easy (or probably hard in my case) is that Dreamweaver type software to use? Will I need experience of web site design?

Hi CJ,

I built my parents rental cottage site witrh online availability form and booking system from scratch using Dreamweaver 8. Took a bit of getting used to, I've built samples before, and the database coding wasn't easy. Take a look here:

I could send through some templates if you like? I'd use Dreamweaver as it enables you to view the design and input code at the same time. Hope that helps.....kind of! ;)

Oh by the way, I am building a site for a friend at work for his Polaris apartment at the moment. Price I charge is a flat £500 fee including full website and up to 8 pages, integrated booking system, updating pictures and content when required (no more than twice a month) and resolving any downtime issues. This doesn't include hosting but I use fasthosts for that at around £60-80 per annum. ;) Greg
