Burning Oil!

Hi guys, just got a supra and I was wondering if anyone might have any suggestions on the following issue.

I’m finding is the car engine oil is going down rapidly, but there are no signs of leak, apart from the odd bit that has travelled out through the blow off valve - but Mike (pixelfill) said that his does this, and it may not be a good thing but its not doing his any harm. Its just that when im driving (mainly on the motorway boosting from say 70-90) the big warning triangle comes on in the centre of the dash and the low engine oil light pops on. I pulled over into a service station, topped up to what I think was full, by checking the dip stick although, how long does it take for the engine to travel from pouring the oil into the engine, to reaching the dipstick, are you ok checking for a reading straight away or is it going to be inaccurate?). So after I filled up, I continued my journey without any lights flashing away, but about 200 miles later the light flashed on, then went off - it has never stayed on for long periods id say max 6secs and goes off and generally only when the car is boosting. so I pulled over and checked the oil again and its below half way, which is either 1 of 2 things, I hadn’t put in as much as what I though I had, although the dipstick was reading full, or secondly im burning to much oil?

Any ideas?

fill the car to the line of the dipstick, exactly, then check it again after a good run.

when you check it again, give it 5-10mins for oil to return to sump, also take the engine under cover off, these can mask a oil leak as they soak so much

Get someone to follow you to see/smell for smoke.

TBH in this weather smoke isn't so visible as it is in bright sunlight, so smelling for it would be easier as even the smallest amount stinks :)

Good luck finding the source of the oil loss.

hmmm, im having the same issue at the moment no oil leaks , but my car is displayin smoke [ especially on over-run] and under much investigation, and phonecalls, it could be ur turbo seals, valve stem seals or as dini said worst case, ur piston rings, i would start with having a compression test done, or better still a leakdown test to eliminate your rings or vss. Hope it aint to bad mate, good luck
