xxcat
Strange, but google have no info about this box... I've found this controller near the ECU of my Supra.. Maybe someone knows what is it?
ADL Mark
Line pressure regulator.. Maybe something to do with the autobox? If indeed your car is auto? Where does it wire in to, can you see?
xxcat
Yes - the car auto. It's wired to some relay, undefined aluminium box (see pic) and ECU... Have no time to inspect where exactly the wires is connected but will do this this evening..
M4RK RZ
I found this if it is any insight? http://www.patentstorm.us/patents/6685597-description.html PROBLEMS (taken from link) For example, if the line pressure is insufficient with respect to the input torque of the transmission, the friction element tends to slip thereby causing a loss of power transmission besides degrading the durability of the friction element, while degrading the shift quality in that the actual shift is felt as being retarded. On the contrary, if the line pressure is excessively high with respect to the input torque of the transmission, the drive load of the oil pump for generating the line pressure becomes unnecessarily high, thereby deteriorating the fuel consumption of the engine and/or degrading the shift quality in that a large shift shock occurs upon shift operation. ANSWER (From text again) In an attempt to overcome these problems, there have been proposed various methods for controlling the line pressure to a value according to the input torque of the automatic transmission. Thus, for example, JP 9-303541A discloses a shift control system wherein the output torque of the engine at the front stage of the automatic transmission is estimated from the engine rotational speed and the engine load (throttle valve opening) as taught by JP 3-41256A, and the input torque of the automatic transmission is calculated from the estimated engine torque and the operation state of a torque converter, so as to be used as the basis of the line pressure control. You can read up a load more info on the link - hope that helps a little.
mkirby
i would assume its something like this http://www.hksusa.com/products/?id=
TrickTT
I would guess that the alu box is a high power 2ohm resistor, judging by what is written on it and the heat resistant wires.
xxcat
But if it's so easy and usefull to control the pressure - why it's not from factory? And why it's not very popular (I don't see much info about this mod on forums)...

And why it's not very popular (I don't see much info about this mod on forums)... it just enables the autobox to change quicker, i know its pretty popular on the 300zx so cant see why it wouldnt work on the supra as well

xxcat
Ok.. Pros: quicker shifting? Cons: ?
ADL Mark
Extra stress on the internals of your autobox. There's a good reason it doesn't shift that quick as standard.
