Hi all,

I was wondering if its possible to have a fully functioning active front spoiler with a fmic??

Id like to change my front to a standard bumper with an active spoiler but i currently have a fmic.

Would the only option be to change to a smic??

thanks, ben

Surpised no-ones answered this. :search:

This has been covered a few times matey, but basically no, you can't have a FMIC and a fully functioning active spoiler. IIRC it's the motors that get in the way, so you could have the spoiler re-attached with a couple of brackets (so it's permanently down), but it wouldn't function.

My car is standard and I wouldn't like to try parking facing a kerb with the active spoiler down. It is not easy to judge where the front of the car is and it wouldn't take much to rip the spoiler off. I was parked like that tonight and the bumper had about 2" clearance to the top of the kerb

For looks id leave it down, but the reason im replacing the current ridox bumper is because its too low and i keep catching it. i wouldnt say my car is particularly low but the active spoiler looks really low.

Thats a valid point, however the active spoiler doesn't 'stick out' anywhere near as far as the Ridox (or most other aftermarket) spoilers, so you shouldn't really have any issues with speed bumps. The only thing to watch for is curbs when parking.

I'm thinking about getting rid of he do-luck for the same reason...

I am going to have a look at what smics are available and prob fit the water/meth injection kit that I just removed from the Golf. That should help the ic keep the temps down. Is there any disadvantage in flow rates going with smic over fmic?

If you're on stock turbo's I very much doubt you'd see any difference if you went back to an SMIC - PROVIDED - you get a high quality one, such as new stock or a Chris Wilson uprated one.

The CW SMIC's have been used to great success even on small single conversions.

thanks for the advice guys........well i might just keep the 'active' spoiler in the down position and save the pennies and hassle of changing from a fmic to a smic.

I honestly thought the spoiler looked just as low as my ridox but im sure your right homer..........only one way to find out!!

Any idea how much it would cost to convery back to a smic with all the associated ducting?? also will the smaller air intake on the stock bumper mean its pointless having a fmic that is half convered up??
