Engine problem - throttle wise

Driving along fine and I come to roundabout as i pull off I put my foot to the floor for kick down but instead get a full splutter. I quickly change lane to head off to a housing estate.

I now cant give the car any throttle at all (or so I thought) and it just starts spluttering. Not misfire sound as such, Best way i Can describe it is kangaroo petrol but without as much energy, so splutter (soft go), then dead then splutter again.

If i take my foot off the accelerator it trundles along fine on the idle, I then find if i give it less then 4mm travel on the pedal the car will accelerate without a splutter. This up to revs of about 2000RPM with that much travel.

So I coast back at 30 - 40mph no problem as thats the speed limit, as coming back idecide to see if its behaving itself now and sure enough put my foot gradually down and turbo's come online and everything is fine, smooth silky and fast.

Does anyone have any ideas? I cant tell if I had a misfire at idle or not sorry, but if i did im sure power on boost wouldnt be happening.

Did you notice any smoke from the exhaust? Did any of the engine management lights come on? Checked for fault codes?

It does sound very much like a boost pipe had come off, so certainly re-tighten all the clamps on the IC pipework.

IME, once the plugs start playing up, they don't tend to suddenly start working again, so as others have said I've look towards coil pack connectors and also the FCD is securely wired in.
