Auto gears

Its the torque converter going into lockup, most modern auto boxes do it for economy, although you should be able to notice it happening most of the time when cruising with light throttle in 4th, (overdrive) not just over 100 mph.

If you just press the throttle, any more than a small amount, it should come out of lockup straight away, it feels a bit like a kick down half a gear IYSWIM.

Well, 3rd redlines at 120, but if your not accellerating hard then it will obviously change up before then.

Thanks Geoff that'll be it! Curiosity assuaged. It is a very reassuring and good feeling when you're travelling that fast to hear the engine just go into 'amble' mode as if you're just idling along or something :)
