georigg
Hi, See my post at http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=122052 which will give you an idea of the various types of converter fitted. The speed sensor is basically a proximity probe which creates a square wave signal according to the number of revs per minute that the gearbox shaft makes past the probe. This signal is then sent to the Central computer and on to the speedo and Odo. With your problem it could be a bad connection at the converter or possibly a fault in the wiring from the speed sensor to the dash area. Need to start at the converter, and check connections(what type of converter is it....if its mounted at the gearbox(IE cheap Ebay special) get rid of it! and get a Thor etc see my post above. If all else fails, remove the converter, check operation at KPH operation and if OK you will know the fault is in the converter.....if problem still persists its in the wiring or speedsensor. Best of luck. George
georigg
Sorry, just re-read your post(properly), if the problem was there before, its not likely to be the speedo converter, looks like its wiring or speed sensor. Check the posts for carrying out a fault code check, you can do it using a bent pin at the test plug under the steering wheel(sorry, I cant remember the pin connections to use).....if you get a 4-2 fault code, its the speed sensor..........this is a classic and common fault code on jspecs.... see other posts on same subject. 'm fairly certain there is a techy write up in the how to section, on doing the fault code checks Rgds George
