Getrag
Just got a new computer, thanks Darren, but it wont play all my old saved movies and tv programmes etc. WMP says searching for codec, then acquired codec but it doesnt play the picture, only sound. What is that programme that has every single codec again?
robin
I like the ffdshow codec’s. Very efficient, loads of configurable options and plays most things.
Sheefa
Download the Kazaa Lite Codec pack mate, but not Kazaa etc itself. Has everything you need although the above is also very good.
jamesmark
Usually DivX is the best codec. http://www.divx.com Or Any DVD software ie Power DVD. There is also a program you can install, that will find any codec that you require, I cannt remember what it is called though.

DamanC
Who is Darren? I use the Kazzaa one, it does the job http://www.codecguide.com/
ivan
Let me guess - it's Vista? Open the file in MediaPlayer (even if it doesn't play), click File/Properties to see what audio or video codecs it needs. If you get sound but no vision then you need the video codec and visa versa. Then go to http://www.wmplugins.com/ItemList.aspx?typeid=8 and download the correct one(s). They're all listed there and almost all are free. XVID: http://www.xvidmovies.com/codec/ DIVX 5: http://www.divxmovies.com/codec/ HTH
