richardharmon
Does anybody know for sure if UK-spec TT cams will fit a J-spec TT engine and if so would it make much difference (if I’m right in thinking the UK-spec cam duration is slightly higher that the J-spec)? I was just wondering because I might have the cams out anyway to change the valve stem seals, thought it might be worth doing if I could find some cheap UK cams. Obviously I would rather get some HKS or Jun cams but finances restrict that particular exercise at the moment . I just feel like I should do something since the cams are going to be out anyway, seems like a missed opportunity otherwise! Cheers, Richard
Alex
http://www.mkiv.co.nz has the specs for the j-spec and export spec cams... If I recall correctly only the intake has a longer duration on the Export/UK spec. It might make a difference but it might not be big enough for the work involved. If you do do it, before and after tests would be really helpful to the community.
richardharmon
Thanks, I wasn't sure what the differences were. I know what you mean about the work involved, but as I'm going to be taking the cams out anyway it might be worht a shot.
eyefi
the cam is tuned for mid range, to suit the ceramics. i'd rather keep the mid range rather than move the curve to the left a bit
Ian C
Or even to the right? The HKS cams, 256/264, really boost the top end in a driver-can-feel-the-difference fashion, and I can't say I noticed a loss low down. UK ones - probably not so much of a difference. The J-spec cams are stupidly mild compared to others though, so if you do find UK spec ones, why not drop 'em in, get the experience at least -Ian
MONKEYmark
i have 264/264 and they seem strong in midrange and low down they feel great. i got mine because i was getting a cam belt change so went with cams and cam gears too. i would stick the uk cams in too as it would make sence to try them. get a post up asking for some uk cams. richardharmon
I was thinking about putting a post up, I don't know how much I should pay for a set though, especially when they *might* not make all that much difference, anyone got any idea what the second hand value of UK cams would be? I understand there may be some reluctance to answer that question as nobody wants to piss-off anyone selling a set. If anybody has any idea you could PM me and I promise not to disclose the information.
eyefi
yeah, to the right sorry about that they r basically redundant so u shouldnt pay much above nothing really. there r quite a few new zealanders and aussies who've done it when they swap over to us spec turbos. Ian C
I paid £350 for a set of HKS 256in 264ex cams with 5000 miles on them. That should give you a guideline for pricing x0,000 mile old UK stockers -Ian
