afr-single turbo

hello everyone,

Just out of interest, was wondering what afr are members running at WOT and at what boost levels on stock bottom ends.

Also how much timing retard was needed and at what rpms.

It would be nice to see different people/tuners approach to mapping/setting up.

have a look at some of the threads before.. there are quite a few. Most opt for between 11 and 12, and ign is relative to knock detection / safety margin.

 

I have 11.3 as a standard figure, some people go higher.

The perfect afr is meant to be between 11.5 to 11.7 but this is so dependant on your setup.. its like how long is a piece of string... get on egt gauge and afr gauge, these are your tuning bible...

 

boost level is dependant on turbo... as each different type of turbo flows differently....

 

Timing retard is dependant on allot of things.. that again is "how long is a piece of string"

The reason i was asking was, recently spoke to a few tuners not mentioning any names who said that they would be running in the high tens. I was under the impression that this is still a bit rich and trimming of a bit would bring noticable improvement in power.

So are these tuners playing safe?

I thought a tuner was someone who could extract every bit of power but reliably, thats what there getting paid to do.

bad for business when your engine goes bang though.

 

It depends on a lot a lot of stuff.. every car is different so every car will have a different way of getting the most from it.

Race cars are tuned to within an inch of destruction/most power...road cars are reliable and safe...anyone who wants a time bomb on the road should be shot.

 

10.8's at high rpm and full boost won't do you any harm at all....

 

11.3-11.7:1 for most of the rest of the rev range where you're on boost...

 

14.7:1 on cruise light throttle.

When mapping mine, we started out at a very safe 10.8ish, but I think ended up with 11.3-11.5 throughout most of the high boost rev range.

 

The difference in power between 10.8 and 11.5 was phenomenal at 1.4bar. I can see how people get carried away leaning things out.

Ill go with Homer on that one, when i had my egt problem, we riched up my WOT fueling to 10.7 and u could feel the difference immediatly.. felt like someone had put the handbrake on.:)

thanks for your comments guys,

I agree with mike that every car is different, so how can a tuner tell u on the phone without even seeing the car that high tens afr is what they would aim for when surely it might differ between cars.

I am running around 10.9 afr at the moment but will be leaning out to 11.5 afr once i got my boost spikes sorted due to my xs wastegate, which i am changing to a greddy.
