is the auto box more fuel hugry than the manual box

Yes, by design.

For a high-powered supra personally I'd go for a manual - so I can force the engine to be in the rev range I want it to be.

The stock autobox is designed around the stock torque curve and it is highly unlikely that a really powerful supra will have the same characteristics.

The way I see it, you'll need a well-setup AEM to make the uprated box blend with the new engine apart from the TC and uprated everything (which are not OEM and could all fail and you'd have to splash out again!)

I love my autobox and I wouldn't muck about with it.

have to disagree with all this mate, the stock box doesn't really give a fig about torque curves it just gets on with it, you will need a well set up ecu of some description (as opposed to a badly set up one :search:) on any car !, and failure of parts is a possibility whether manual or auto, i dont know what your classing as "really powerfull" the rebuilt stock box runs sub 10's in the states so i would guess they are putting some power through them, please dont put people off from choosing an auto they can handle a decent amount of power and despite what a few peeps on here reckon can be a pleasure to drive

have to disagree with all this mate,

It's a free world:)

best is to have a read on how it works first

i dont know what your classing as "really powerfull"

something that runs 10s easily

Just because a specialist race box works well on the track, doesn't mean it will make you friends when you start up the car 6 in the morning and try to pull away quietly.

As for the reliability of 'built' boxes, check their warranties and decide for yourself.

ok john i bow down to your obvious superior knowledge on the subject of single turbo built autos........ i'me just the guy actually running one, i am just trying to give a balanced view as most of the comment on this thread is from peeps running manuals

at the end of the day 500 rwhp on whatever box aint gonna hang around, i am biased as due to a 2 wheeled accident many moons ago i only drive autos but my bud jonny5 who has a T61 manual i am sure will vouch for my car not being "pedestrian", the best thing to do is try and get a ride in both, if you enjoy thrashing through the box the manual is the way to go, if you enjoy cruising but still with the ability to humble 99% of anything you come up against go single auto

lol...tbh having been in Pauls supe the driveability of his BL (slush box:D) is very impressive. It was brilliant before with the standard box, it's what made my mind up to go single....;):D
