DaveM
I have been trying to get hold of some replacement Pad retaining pins for the Supra but Toyota appear to have ordered the wrong parts. I have searched for part numbers on here but the numbers I found (T04479-24030 and T04479-14120) come up on the Toyota EPC as caliper repair kits (pistons, seals and clips). The parts they have ordered for me look like the caliper slide pins. I have looked at the Toyota EPC but cannot see any pad retaining pins on it. Does anyone have the correct part numbers or do the caliper sliding pins also serve as the pad retaining pins?
Chris Wilson
Hang on, let's get this straight. Are we talking small Jap spec calipers, or big multi piston UK ones? Front or rear? Jap spec calipers don't HAVE any pad retaining pins...
DaveM
damm that's me feeling very stupid then. It is J-Spec brakes but I have been reading the various threads on here for changing pads over and they all refer to the retaining pins. I guess all the threads must be based on the UK brakes. I'll just go hide in the corner and keep quiet from now on. Thanks for your help Chris.
Chris Wilson
No worries Dave, this can be confusing. You just undo the 2 off 14mm headed bolts and the caliper part lifts off. Check the slider pins are TOTALLY free, retract the caliper piston, remove old pads, fit new, and replace and torque up the two bolts. Dead easy. Same front and rear, to all intents and purposes. Use the correct high temperature grease on the slider pins if they look dry.
chilli
yes, did mine recently, really really easy. They are single sided 2-pots so there are calliper sliding pins which could conceivably get seized but no pad retaining pins to get stuck, just as CW says really I did take my calliper pins out and clean and re-grease, just to make sure all is good.
