Rory
Hi Folks I need some help to do with the black ring which sits behind the steering wheel and has the horn connector on it. I have an aftermarket momo wheel fitted, which came with the car. Basically it doesnt move properly all the time, meaning my indicators dont self cancel properly. Also , it must be moving too far at points as the wire for the horn is being yanked out its connection. Heres a pic of the ring in question : What I need to know is how far this ring is meant to go ? Should it turn round and round indefinately? This would mean you would need a very long horn cable as it would wrap around the column, so I dont think this can be the case. Is it a toyota part, or part of my momo wheel kit ? There is another black ring within the outer one, which seems to be worn away and damaged somehow. Can anyone tell me how this is meant to sit and what it does? I have taken a picture of it : I dont know how these parts are meant to move so I'm not sure how to attempt a fix. I need the horn working for my MOT due very soon eek ! Any help would be very much appreciated ! Thanks Rory.
ulysees
the ring should turn around with the wheel yes and its got a ribbon wire inside for the airbag aswell which needs to be in correct position of rotation or it will snap resulting in the airbag light coming on and a big bill, that yellow strip around the ring should tell you the correct position on it hope this helps. Rory
Thanks for that at least I could get a new one if need be. To remove the metal boss from the steering column is it just the one bolt ? I undid it but couldnt get the metal part off to get into the ring...
Rory
Its now making a crunching sound as well as not turning properly, does anyone know what would cause this? The inner part of the black ring with the little chunks on it seems to be broken in a part. Does anyone know where I can get a replacement? Anyone got a spare? uzthedentist
looks like somebodys fitted the wrong boss kit on your car. this sometimes happens when people fit basic bosses when they need the ones with cruise control etc.
