What a pleasant surprise from the government in the post

You know when you get THOSE letters from the government that you dread opening? You just know from the style of envelope and you feel that sinking feeling of "oh crap, what do they want money for now?"

 

Well I had one of those waiting for me at home last night.

 

With trepidation and trembling hands I carefully undid the envelope to discover.... a cheque!

 

A cheque? This must be a mistake. How much is it for? £643! AND it's got MY name on it! Stay calm - it must be a mistake. The government don't give you money, they swiftly remove it at every opportunity.

 

Ah - there's a letter in here too. This is it. This is the sting.

 

"Dear Mr Barfield. You've been paying too much NI for the last 4 years". Ah I see now. They've simply returned what was mine in the first place which they'd been fleecing from me. Without interest.

 

Still - damn nice to get when you're not expecting it! :D

 

Shame it turned up the day before Vickis birthday and I'm taking her shopping in Brum for her presents. Of course she was there when I opened it.

Did you have to apply for it or did they just send it?

Only I've been out of work since mid December too. Looks like I may have a gift coming my way then (hopefully).
