FYI unless you can get the block line bored by a CNC machine and not by traditional methods - I wouldn't bother. Tuesday tip for you ;)

 

What's the thinking behind this? I like tips but I like explanations of them too ;)

Well, we firmly believe our spun bearing was due to this. I could also speculate on two other engines gone this way that I know of and also I know Leon had problems.

 

It doesn't happen in the US often because they use CNC machines to do it which offer far more accuracy.

Fitting any DIFFERENT main, rod or cam cap means the item it's attached to will need line boring and honing to size. You CANNOT, MUST NOT fit different caps and expect the main journals to be either to size, or in line. So buying the caps is the cheap bit. Do you need them? IMO no, not even on big HP motors, the stock caps should be fine, spend the money on a decent crank.
