markymark
Just a quick question - a few people I've asked have said different things. If you have a company car, and you have an accident, who pays the excess on the insurance (you or your company?)
Havard
Your company!! They pay the premium. Unless this is stated in your terms and conditions of employment..... My wife's company have had that many problems with drivers running in the back of cars that they make all new employees sign a disclaimer that if they crash and it is their fault they must pay a huge excess. The actual excess from the insurer is a lot less mind!! H.
markymark
Cheers H - yeah, been offered that I drive the car, but if I crash & it's my fault I'll have to pay the voluntary excess (which is crazy high & decided by my boss) I guess you're alright if it's not your fault, but I always assumed that the company would pay for any damage caused to the car as they are the legal owners. In my last company, they were a bit lax with things like this and when I tw@tted a pothole and bent the alloys they paid for the lot. If they would have asked me to foot the bill I would have told them to f@ck off!! I now work for a bigger company and would expect that if I crashed and it was my fault, they would take the excess out of my wages. Sign of the times... Your employer is within his rights to do this. Depends on the comapny I suppose!! H.

Next I'll be asked to service the car & pay for new tyres!?!
MarkTheBoy
Company car = companies responsibility surely. If my boss told me I had to pay the excess i'd tell him to piss off. Its his insurance policy, his choice of excess and cover and so on so it cannot be the employees responsibility to pay for it in a claim situation... I dont collect a NCB for my company car so I wouldn't let it be my problem. Likewise with tyres, servicing etc its their responsibility. You could end up paying for stuff to get done to the car and then your boss could take it off you a week later and leave you with a right shi##er. Watch out for company car tax though... its a right pita. Its well tricky to explain but I do know it costs me about £70 a month for a crappy 1.6 06 plate astra! SMiFFAD
Co i work for also do this, it affects pool cars as well which is how i know, im not entitled to a co car. If we crash and its our fault we have to pay a £250 excess, which i suppose is fair enough, if you could get away blame free with no consiquences you'd probably put no thought into your driving at all
